When in the City....

There are positives and negatives about living in the city - those include noise, vandalism, multi-culturalism, and a mix of people from distinct social classes. Treasure Island is a microcosm of what you might find in a big city so of course you have to welcome the positives and the negatives that come with the privilege of city living. If getting your car broken into or loud noises and rowdy bus rides is what you call the "ghetto" then you obviously have no concept of what it means to live in the "ghetto". There are huge differences a few of which are: we have a police department and a fire department allocated to serve the island and it's 2,000 residents (probably less than that) and our crime rate has got to be laughable considering we are talking about the city. I don't feel unsafe when I am home and certainly not walking around the island at night or otherwise. Children are allowed to roam and play without worrying of getting abducted. If you want to live in the suburbs then Menlo Park, Palo Alto and San Mateo are waiting for you. For those of you who want to be somewhere in between...I mean have the room, the yard and the safety without all of the hassles then you should consider Treasure Island.
I live in a four bedroom apartment about 1,600 Sq Ft. and I pay $2,050 all utilities included; I can drive anywhere in the city in about 10 minutes (if traffic permits); I walk 2 minutes to the path and can run while enjoying the most incredible view in the Bay Area; there is nature here (geese, the seals are now coming to the island as well as flock of waterfowl that are incredible to watch); parking is included for more than one car; but if I don't want to drive the bus shows up on time every 15 to 20 minutes and leaves me in the city in 20 minutes; and my dog has a lot of room to run around in a pet friendly environment.
I am also disturbed by all the derogatory commentaries made regarding the low income families on the island. Low income is not synonymous with low class. There are great folks on the island that are not well to do but have better manner than some of the better to do people I have met. The noise people are referring to are little kids - at least that's the case in my neighborhood -- little kids, people! Playing and laughing and making fun of each other. Remember' I think it's wonderful that the children are out playing and not cooped up in some apartment where they never see the light of day. Yeah they get into trouble but didn't you when you were little'
There are negatives about living on the island which I won't list since everyone is always quick to point those out. Your home is what you make it and living in a city isn't all roses...there are inconveniences. In the end...I too will be leaving Treasure Island but I must say I am sad to go and will miss it here.
