I've lived on Treasure Island for almost five years and absolutley loved it when I first moved in. Slowly and sadly this place has worn me down. I've seen the community change drastically. The biggest downfall (aside from the EXTREMELY sub par people who work in the rental office) is the mixing of section 8 and regular paying people on the same block.

Young kids are aggressive and unruly; riding bikes and stopping in the middle of the street, staring down bus drivers, refusing to move. When I run out near the empty units, I've seen them throwing rocks, trying to break what little remnants of windows are still intact. The graffiti gets worse all the time. I just got something in the mail yesterday from the rental office saying that burglaries are on the rise and to be careful and always lock my windows and doors.

I also found out I was paying $500 hundred more a month than the person next to me, section 8 not even included. For years...

I've had to call the fire dept twice because a gas leak in our house was not being taken seriously by the rental office (they assured me that our house would not blow up and then left) only later to come back and yell me when the fire dept turned off the gas.

Not to mention the siren squeal of a loud water heater that wakes me up five times a night. I think I've called maintenance about this two dozen times. It's really sad because this area is so beautiful and there's so much space. I'm not a mean person but I'm getting resentful of people who don't/can't/won't take responsibility for themselves irregardless of who's mandate or example is laid out before them. Whatever positives this place had going for it doesn't outweigh the negative anymore.
