Pros and CONS

I've lived on Treasure Island for about a year, and don't intend to stay another. I would consider living on YBI, if I didn't have to endure dealing with the mutants that run the leasing office.

Pros for TI: Close to downtown, spacious units, your own laundry, lots of parking, cheap rent, relatively quiet.

Cons for TI: The ghettoness factor on some blocks, the radioactive toxic soil (the people in the office don't even know the details, and will try to make it sound minimal, when it is NOT.. do your research!), the sheer creepy abandoned ugliness of everything, and when neighbors make noise they make a lot of it. I am sick of rap music booming through my walls late on weeknights (from a different building, mind you). Plus there have been problems with crime.. I have heard gunshots in my neighborhood more than once, seen kids getting into brawls in the street, and known more than one person whose unit was broken into... Oh yes and the night when like 5 cop cars were searching the neighborhood for a fugitive for hours on end ("So-and-so Thug... This is the SFPD. Come out with your hands up, you are under arrest.").. that was lots of fun trying to sleep through.

Office staff and maintenance folks can be hit or miss.. usually miss. They try, but not hard enough and usually do the minimum slipshod job they can, and often without being very friendly or incredibly professional. Scratch that, enough being diplomatic. Most of them are a massive pain in the rear end and I have been lied to by them more than once.

Pros for YBI (from what it looks like): All the pros of TI (except rents slightly higher on YBI), lush vegetation, non-toxic, non-landfill, non-creepy ghettoness, safer for earthquakes, units in better repair, walking trails feel safer, MUCH quieter. And of course, the amazing views.

Cons: Still have to deal with same office and maintenence staff. They make everything else totally un-worth-it.
