I've lived in a few different apartments over the past 5 years, and I can tell you that this complex is THE WORST, by far.
My partner and I had seen the reviews, but we figured that perhaps things weren't this bad. We were in somewhat of a crunch, since we were relocating up here and have a large dog who isn't allowed in most apartments. So we thought we'd take our chances.
MISTAKE.
We walked in the first day only to find a huge hole in our bathroom ceiling, and plaster everywhere. They had entered without our consent (which they supposedly can do if they post a notice on your door) and torn everything up because they needed to work on the upstairs. Well, work they did! Took them 3 days to fix our hole and then we had to deal with construction for another 3 weeks. They were even starting at 7AM (which they legally can't do!) and working til 7 or 8 at night. We complained about the hours to the office, but they were unsympathetic at best.
What else... oh, our bathtub stopped draining and it took maintenance over 2 hours to respond. They flat out lied to us about speaking to "a Chinese lady" over the phone... and we're both white! Someone finally came, with a surly attitude.
They tried to scam us out of $45 that we mysteriously owed them out of nowhere and they claimed it was for pet rent... that we had always paid. I raised such hell about it that they finally dropped it. (Even if they didn't, I've kept all my receipts and paperwork. It's a small precaution I take because of how much the office tries to scam you.)
Oh, and there's mold EVERYWHERE. The bathroom, the closets, even behind our bed. We're constantly cleaning this stuff off the walls because we don't want to wait around for hours for maintenance to come and do nothing. And with our pet situation, we DO NOT want people entering without us being there! Our dog is afraid of men (she was abused) so she'd probably bite, and we don't need a lawsuit on our hands...
The leasing office/resident relations is equipped with these morons who couldn't care less about you once you've moved in. Receptionists don't know basic information, like how late maintenance is around. ISN'T THAT YOUR JOB'!
The laundry facilities are disgusting. The one by our place is swarming with flies, and there's all this crap in the washer (like old soap scum, etc). The dryers are set VERY LOW to scam you and give you no value for your money. We end up taking all our stuff a mile away in Bernal Heights to do laundry somewhere that's CLEAN!
Parking's not too bad where we are (the townhouses)... we share a car, so we're pretty set. Our visitors haven't had much of an issue with parking either.
As for noise, we can hear a great deal from the people above us, but that's been true for pretty much any apartment I've been in.
So basically, don't live here. In three months we have had more problems than in the 5 years COMBINED at other complexes. Pretty bad, huh' We're sticking around til our lease expires and may be forced to renew again because it's one of the cheaper places in the city... but god, I hope not.
