I moved to Park Merced from New York in 2003 and have lived in my garden apartment for the last five years. While I appreciate being able to have my dog, living with greenery and some great neighbors, I have to say that the increasing presence of adolescent college students that seem to be flocking to Park Merced in droves is less and less pleasant.
For example, my neighbors next door have installed a bar in their living room (at one point they also had a Foos Ball table). Accross the street my neighbor (a retired librarian) is terrorized by the collection of students who throw regular parties and set their house on fire last weekend.
I have had some decent experiences with the staff, but for the most part they are either unhelpful or explicitly rude. The courtesy patrol (who responds to noise complaints) is largely powerless and ineffective.
I would say that I would be happier here without the noise and partying, so unless that doesn't bother you, I would recommend that you live somewhere further away from SFSU.
