My son, a 10-year-old boy, was stuck inside a newly installed elevator of a tower building for about one and half hour. A contracted maintenance guy finally came after he was rescued by a 911 crew. To my surprise, I was recommended that it's not safe to send a child at his age alone to pick up the mail in lobby. As a matter of fact, that was the only time he was sent alone for such an errand.
He remained relatively calm for the whole process, and I always feel so proud of him. However, after a few months, I started to notice that he refuse to take that elevator sometimes. If we request him going with his older brother, he would insist him carrying his cell phone just case. Some of the minor symptoms of claustrophobia presented recently.
I was charged for late payment before, but have not yet received any apologies for that incident.
I am an immigrant to this country, but have a BS degree in Business Administration (not a total idiot). Can the management team tell me whether it is appropriate to send my son alone to get our mail'

you got to love parkmerced. the only thing they care about now is getting every last penny they can out of this property. i think they had to right to say that to you at all. i have seen younger children on the elevators alone, i mean come on. when a child gets home from school their parents usually drop them off at the door and the child goes up to their place. nothing wrong with that. i have lived here a long time and my grandmother would always send me to get the mail and i was only 9 or so. but they have no right to say anything like that to you at all. i would really file a complaint againt the gentleman, but then knowing parkmerced, whats the point, it will never get done. and for anyone readying this, if you have a problem like this i do not recommend calling security or parkmerced. i would just call the police or 911. its the only way to really get help in situations like these.
