For your health and sanity, don't move here!!!

After living in the SFSU dorms for a couple of years, I really wanted to move to Parkmerced because it was so close to campus. Bad decision.

I had to gather my friends with the richest parents just to qualify. Our rent for a 3 bedroom was $2,800 so someone's parent in the household had to make over $100,000 a year to co-sign for us. Ridiculous.

Parkmerced is so moldy. I would hang items on the wall and a few months later, black mold rings had been formed behind them.

(I'd like to say just because this apartment is by the ocean is no excuse for being as damp as it was! I live in an apartment now close to the ocean and it isn't 1/2 as damp as Parkmerced. My dehumidifier would fill up with water in a day.... A futile effort after a while.)

Parkmerced has mice. It was disgusting to find mice droppings in our rooms. We found a huge hold dug under the backdoor that lead straight into our living room.

Parkmerced has no screens. I had so many bites on my body some days. It was so disgusting.

Parkmerced's sinks are constantly leaking. Also, the cabinets were wood so water sitting on them would cause them to warp more than they would.

In the end, they took our $2,000 deposit and made us pay $800 more in fees. Yes, I'll admit the carpets were dirty but really, $2,800 to clean them'

And, forget about maintenance. They will come out but they won't help all that much. They instructed me to just spray bleach on the mold. (I had a friend whose Parkmerced apartment had black mold and Parkmerced put them up in a hotel for a week as they cleaned it. However, they never reimbursed him for the closet of clothes they had to destroy that were covered in mold.)

Also, Parkmerced makes you pay community utilities... so basically they take all the water/sewage and divide it by the number of units. Each month, the bill was over $100. It didn't matter if you conserved water, you had to pay. And the garbage fee is like $200 more a month.

Parkmerced is horrible and a health hazard. They should be sued for the substandard living units they provide.

Save your money. Move to University Park North (Stonestown apartments).
