My wages were cut by 50%, my renter's broke their lease and left me with hundreds of dollars in utility debt. I asked the manager for grace with the last month of my lease and was told that short of loosing my job, no grace would be given. I then gave over a 6 week notice, and left a full week prior to the end of my 11th month of a 12 month lease to give them plenty of time to rent my apartment in y 12th month. I cleaned and painted and left everything in even better shape than I found it. I asked that they please replace the carpet----that I had told the they did't need to replace for me when I had moved in--as soon as possible so I could get another renter in. They told me---even with a 6 week notce keep in mind---that they probably would'nt be able to do that for me. I lined up a renter just in case and told them about this...instead, within about a week of my departure, they rented my unit to a person that would not move in until the beginning of the following month ):

I had called several times to ask that they get a new carpet in so I could get a new tenant in that I was lining up..did'nt help a bit. I also called 3 or more times to insure they had sent my deposit check, they told me all was in progress. After it was over a week late, I then called to ask where it was to find out it had not been put into progress after all. I received it almost 2 weeks OUT OF COMPLIANCE. I then spoke directly to the owner/administrators office to share the above frustrations as well as unspeakable issues with the maintenance manager at the end of my stay. I asked for a phone call back from the owner, but never heard back. I was never mean or nasty..but told them I thought if they cared about people they would want to call me and hear about my experience..hopefully to make things better..that did not happen.

Also know I have heard from neighbor friends that the management has broken plans and promises..overall disrespectful/low integrity things.

Anyway---take this as the warning that it is. On the bright side---some very great tenants..and GREAT weekend office employee!!

Teresa,
I am really sorry that your renters broke their lease and left you with utility bills. And yes, I did say that if you had been layed off I could work with you on breaking the lease. I don't make the rules, I only try to enforce them. If you were able to break your lease because of your situation, then everyone would be asking to break their lease! I'm sure you can understand this.
As far as leving your apartment in better shape than when you moved in, everyone does!
Regarding your carpet, I offered to replace it when you moved in and you declined because of the smell, I re-painted your walls because you liked the accent color and wanted something to make your apartment light and bright. I could have charged you for that but I didn't. Back to the carpet, it was replaced after you moved out and we did rent the apartment just after you had moved however, I can't force someone to move in immediatly! Also if you did have someone who was willing to rent your apartment or lined up as you put it, it was certainly unknown to me or my staff, no one ever came in and got an application or mentioned they wanted that apartment! Also since you were so close to Mary, I'm sure she would have told me don't you think? As far as unspeakable issues with the maintenance manager, I am unaware of any.
Lastly pertaining to your security deposit it was late and I apologized for that an explained that between my office and the corporate office it had been misplaced. We have addressed this issue so that it doesn't happen again. Also I did make sure you received all of your deposit back.
Sorry you feel the way you do and I truly hope your situation has improved!
Best Regards,
