When we first came to look at a place and signed the lease, the staff was very nice and helpful. Unfortunately, that was the last time that happened.
The Pros: You can pay your rent online and make maintenance requests online-which are carried out within 48 hours, the apartments' interiors are kept in good condition, and where we lived, neighbors were relatively quiet.
The Cons: The staff was extremely snotty every time we went into the office, it was very difficult to find parking inside the gated community area, people park in spots that aren't theirs and Archstone NEVER tows people for illegal parking, despite the fliers they send out nearly every month threatening to, and expect to hear a lot of noisy maintenance/painting projects in the mornings
For us, the biggest CON of all, was the 17% rent increase (from 1350-1580, high by any standards) they demanded with the renewal of our lease. Also, they just sent us a notice stating that they are probably going to charge us over 300 dollars in cleaning fees, carpet cleaning fees, and "painting fees" when we move out, though we certainly didn't do any damage to the paint job in the apartment in our 1 year stay.

The bottom line: For the money, there are better places to live in this area. And that is where we are going.

I live here, and also work in property management (different company). It is illegal to raise rent more then 10%, without a 60 days notice.
