Years at this apartment: 2001 - 2001
Okay, I'm leaving my original review below mainly for contrast. After having lived there a while, I've built up more than a few complaints:
When my lease was up, they refused to negotiate a lower rental rate, even though I found a place with the same square footage and just as nice for $450 a month LESS (I have since moved). They said that they felt that the prestige of living at Avalon was worth the extra money (I lived there, it's not).
As other people stated, theft is a problem. One of my neighbors had her car broken into twice and I had the seat of my bike stolen out of the garage.
Finally, the management is useless. One of our neighbors had his dog attacked (and injured) by another tenant's dog, and management failed to take any action.
After having lived there long enough to watch the market become more friendly to renters, I would only recommend this place to somebody I really, really hated.
Also one last note for anyone with heavy furniture...even if you get a ground floor apartment, you have to deal with stairs at move-in, and there are no elevators to second and third floor units.
My original (flawed) review:
I dont know what the guy who wrote "sucked" is talking about. The grounds are beautiful, the security is extraordinary (they usually patrol each parking garage every 30 - 45 minutes). The pool is a 75 foot long lap pool, which is great for working out. The gym is extremely nice, and they provide a circuit trainer twice weekly. The machines are brand new, in great shape, and there are two TVs with cable to watch while you sweat. Numerous treadmills and stationary bikes as well.
The apartments themself are very spacious, high cielings, clean, brand spanking new appliances. Full size washer and dryer in the apartment - no quarters, no waiting.
They even let me have my dog and cat there. Walking distance to Starbucks, Blockbuster, a smoothie place, a killer European bakery, and the Towne theater. Minutes from downtown San Jose.
