I am writing this on my last day of my lease here. I have lived here since August of '03 - Feb '04 and while I haven't had any of the issues that others complain about, I found my own set of gripes.
First off... all of the complaints that people warned never occured during my stay, fire alarms didn't go off at night, water didn't spray on my car, etc... so on that end I give a thumbs up to the Colonnade.
My complaints were the general quality of the building... the hallway carpeting is shabby (they are replacing it with tile now), and since the Christmas break... there seems to be a new breed of loser living here (etching their name in the elevator door paint, etc) it's mainly the tennants that aren't keeping the surroundings up and the Colonnade can't fix it fast enough.
Occasionally an elevator would go out, but it was usually working within a couple of hours... it's to be expected with all of the use they see.
My major gripe is rent... for the POS 450sq ft studio that I have I had a rent of $850/mo. I was on a six month lease and new I was moving after so it was no surprise when they wanted to raise my lease rates to $975/mo for a six month extension or $875 for a year!!!
All in all not bad, great location if you are going to SJSU (walk across the street and you are on campus) but there are nicer apartments just down the street for the same price and lower.
