Colonnade has had it's issues over the years like every single other apartment building has. Keep in mind about online reviews that people will more likely write a scathing review when they are unhappy with something rather than a positive review when they are happy with something. I wanted to write something positive and add some perspective.

I have lived at the Colonnade for a little over 12 years now. I live on the fifth floor and my apartment is in a very quiet and peaceful area. Sometimes it is TOO quiet :) It is probably the best location in San Jose. Right downstairs, are many restaurants, a post office, hair salons, it is right across from SJSU and the big MLK library is right down the street. Theaters are just a block or two away and it's right next to government bldgs's. I save a LOT of money in general because I do not even have to own or maintain a car since everything is within walking distance from the place and every busline in San Jose, just about, is within walking distance including the 22 which runs 24 hours. This is important to consider given this age of high gas prices.

Although the common outdoor grounds are kind of in disarray right now and there has been some early day noise due to the extensive remodeling, it is better now and I can see that the place is shaping up and progress is being made. I just close my window when there is construction noise out there, and I think the worst of it has passed. I bet that the place is going to look fantastic when it is all done.

Very nice artwork and furniture have been added into the common areas and no one has messed with them. In the past few years new floors have been put in in the hallways and the walls there have been re-papered. The groundskeepers and the staff work very hard and my experience with them is that they are polite and courteous. The custodial staff do a fantastic job of maintaining the place and the grounds and I can see them working hard all day long. Right now, the gym has re-opened and I bet everything will look fantastic after all the remodeling work has been done.

I feel very very safe and secure in this building. The front door is on an electronic lock system so people can be buzzed in by residents, all other common doors are locked by a key only given to residents. Security is good and a guard patrols the grounds in addition to campus police and regular police outside. There's a 24 hour number you can call if there are problems. There are at least a dozen surveillance cameras on the grounds, the door to the elevator off of 3rd street has been replaced and works well now. My apartment door is very sturdy with a strong bolt lock. There are fire sprinklers almost literally every 10 feet throughout all the building. I have not encountered any criminal activity personally in the 12 years I have been here. I have never been robbed or had anything go missing from my place either. So I feel very secure and comfortable here.

This is an unsolicited testimonial, no one asked me to write this. I just wanted to add some balance to all the other negative reviews on here. Hats off to the staff and custodians who do such a great job.

PS. I wanted to say too that I have seen a few roaches, but I observe that it is getting under control through spraying, and I have never had a bedbug problem, personally. Also, laundry facilities are good and run on a card system. To do a load of laundry (either drying or washing) is 75 cents a load and there is a lot of room in the machines. This is a better price than you'd find at laundromats and there are at least two laundry rooms on every floor. I enjoy living here.

Its not possible to like living here unless you are very rich. In which case of course the staff wont bother you for not being able to pay half of your rent. can you give me some money if you are rich?? Thanks.

I've been thinking about moving to this building but the bad reviews are turning me off to the idea. I appreciate your insight and would like to know if the bugs and roach problems have now disappeared since you last wrote in April. Thanks!

Yes actually since they treated my apartment I have seen zero roaches here. I think they were kicked up by the renovation but not only is that done but I haven't seen a roach in months.
