Good and Bad

This apartment complex has a lot of good and bad things. Let me first talk about the good things.
I have stayed in a smaller 2BR apartment which are very spacious and well planned. It is good for bachelors or two families sharing the same apartment. The management doesn't care how many people are living in the apartment. We being only 2 people felt a lot of space is not used. The kitchen space is quiet enormous. I didn't find any other apartment in the area having so much kitchen space. The walk-in closets, the patio are quiet big. The management always notes down on a scratch paper for any complaints about the apartment or any broken things and will correct you that you should say 'Request for work' and not a 'complaint that something is not working or broken'. The complex has restricted access with gates which is some security. The complex comes under San Jose rent control which means only 8% rent increase per year. Its close to the freeways, I-280 and I-880.

Let me explain about the bad parts of it.
The management is the one of the worst you could ever imagine. They might be competing for the worst management trophy. They behave as if they are doing a favour all the time. They don't care about the residents. If you go to complain ... oops 'request for work, you will be lucky if you get it done soon. You may have to go after them to get the work done. If you manage to get someone to your apartment, they will do a pretty good job. Sometimes, it took months to get something done. They are totally irresponsible. You cannot call the management beyond the working hours although one assistant manager stays in the same complex. If you call them , you have to pay $35. The only exemption is in case of fire or flood. Who in the world will be calling apartment manager than 911 in case of fire or flood.
It has a spa which works half the time. It has a gym and a club house, both of them were under renovation during the whole 3.5 years of my stay. They were never available for use, although the amenities talk about them in the rental agreement. Gyn had nothing inside. Gym and club house are of no use.
It is not secure as said by some neighbours. There have been cases of breaking in cars and stealing the radio. Some of my neighbours lost their tools from the storage area assigned to them near the covered parking even though they were locked well. I never faced any such thing.
The apartment gates are sort of pain sometimes. If you have a guest, its tough to get inside the complex though there is a way to get in from moorpark ave main gate, but tough to find parking on moorpark ave street. So, you may have to walk aout to get your guests.
You don't get much of security deposit back when you leave. They are in consistent with all other mangement in the area and you don't have much choice.
Noise is something the management doesn't do anything. If you are lucky to have good neighbours, you won't face anh problem. My stay during first two years was good. After that I had a guitarist neighbour who made to listen sometimes all his music the whole night.
When you have problem with bugs, management is least bothered. If you have small children you have to be careful.
The rent was quiet affordable during the peak times of Silicon Valley boom. Now their rates are not much competetive

I was happy there except the frustration caused by apartment management. After moving out and staying in a new apartment, I feel now that the Monterey apartsments management is the worst and insensitive to the tenants needs.
