For two years I lived here and paid a reasonble price for my apartment, then they decided to raise my rent. I wasn't happy, considering all the problems. I don't feel like, due to the list of problems below, that they should of raised my rent at all. I have been a loyal renter and pay on time, and frankly the problems don't make this place worth staying at for the almost 20% raise in rent (cos they didn't raise it the year before, so even though its rent controlled they could do that) and the notification that: WATER AND TRASH SERVICES ARE NO LONGER INCLUDED AND ARE SEPERATE. (Thats an extra 34 bucks on your rent folks)

First: The ants. The ants keep coming and coming and coming. Maybe its just a first floor thing. But I keep a can of raid on hand just to spray their entry spot so I can get rid of them.
(I've even had a few cockroaches (that I've seen))
Second: The water problems.
1: My kitchen sink has backed up and overflowed twice since I moved here. Both happened around Christmas time, one in fact was a few days after Christmas and no maitenance or even emergency maitenance to take care of it. I had muck all over my kitchen and ruined a floor mat I had in there and got rust on the cabinets from items I had on there. Disgusting and gross.

2: Rust in the pipes. Every time they turn off the water, which is almost at least once every two weeks for some problem or another, more rust deposits and rusty water when you turn it back on. I keep having to clean out the kitchen water screen and can't get it off currently to clean it out so water barely comes out.

3: Water pressure and tempature sucks, especially in the bathroom. Kitchen water is almost always hot, but bathroom is almost always tepid, especially at night, sometimes hot, but then its too hot. Can't seem to win.

4: Toilet was fixed I thought but still has flushing problems, isn't flushing things on the first flush. Such a waste of my time and the water.

5: Pipe in bathroom above me burst, or was toilet, forget what it was having problem, but flooded my bathroom. Such a mess. They fixed fairly promptly but took several days to repatch ceiling.

Third: Misc Problems

Leak from a broken rainspout, water all over inside wall, has partially damaged nice art print due to moisture. Corner was never fixed though have submitted several work orders and asked numerous times. Mold/Rot in bottom corner and stained wall.

Dishwasher had constant problems not running, had it fixed temporarily numerous times before they replaced it, with another old washer from some other apartment. :( Top rack had numerous problems before that got fixed too.

Lost my rent check once and got a threatening eviction notice and no sympathy from the front office when I explained they had it and I'd given it directly to the asst manager at that time. Was pissed they didn't contact me considering they had numerous people with the same problem instead of putting a nasty note on my door about it.

People are noisy and inconsiderate, especially kids, running around the halls at 10 pm at night screeching and playing. Dunno what the heck is up with parents who let their kids do that so late, or before 9 am in the morning.

First neighbor was rude, would play his radio/stero as loud as possible, repeated police calls and complaints to manager did NOTHING. He finally moved due to mold in his apartment, but only to another apartment. No repricussions to this felllow for his constant annoyances that I heard about even after he moved across the building. Way to go for backing up your lease rules when they're not convienent to you.

Some pros: Had new carpet and new linolium when I moved in, but thats about all that was new. Everything else pretty old. Reglazed cabinet tops and bathtub. Bathtub has an ADA handle. Allowed me to install a handheld shower.

Complete Bull. Maybe it is you. i have lived here since july 05 and had no problmes what so ever and if i did it was fixed in a timely manor. i have nothing bad to say about this complex i would rate it 4 out of 5 stars for the price that i pay and the respect that i get from the fromt office.

I love how people who do not even know you, and have not shared in your experiences decide that they know better than you do the things you directly experienced, and then demean them and call them bull, implying that the person who posted about them has lied.

I have no reason to lie. I bear no animosity toward the current management. Linda is a pretty good manager, and the one handyman they have had for a few months now is brilliant and has really made sure things are getting taking care of now.

This has not always been so however. Please don't belittle my experiences with claims of I have had it great, so you must be lying. It doesn't work that way. What I have reported in the above post is completely and absolutely factual and not embelished in any way. I leave it up for the reader to interpret as they see fit. I hope they do not base their decision on whether or not to move to the apartment based strictly on my review. For all intents and purposes this complex is better than most. However, it is an awful lot of money to pay for the problems I've experienced, in my opinion. But then again I think all of the apartment rental rates in this area are severely out of whack. As of the time I wrote this kids were a problem, the management has enacted though I'm not sure if they've had to uphold it, an action against unsupervised kids which I hail brilliant and hope allievate some of the problem.

I lived there for four years paying a rather high 1250- for a one bedroom located on the first floor. Upon hiring unlicensed roofers, the roof collapsed through the third floor, down the second, and onto my unit. Management was not interested the following Monday morning [72 hours after fact] and was not interested in letting me show them the extent of the damage and offered to email photos. I came home from work to find my lights on and sure enough upon inquiring discovered that they had let themselves in under what they cited as their legal right in an emergency situation. They did this illegally as the 24 hour emergency notification window had since passed... adding further insult to injury. The firefighters came in deeming the place a hazard and stating that it was uninhabitable. At no time was I offered to move to another unit, but instead they insisted on ripping up the walls and ceiling while I was living there. I was then informed that the problem was between this non-licensed roofing company and myself, and not Monterey Apartments. I refused to pay rent for that month until I could in the least meet with the management and filed a thirty day notice the following week. My deposit was not returned despite the fact that water had destroyed the entire ceiling, walls, and carpeting. I did not have the proper capacity to take them to court but looking back I sure with I did. I had no idea how miserable I was living there until I moved out. I filed a complaint with the BBB which does not endorse Monterey Apartments. There are MANY complaints out there if you research them. Simply put, they have absolutely no regard for their tenants... and I too thought Pamela was a pleasure doing business with. Take my word for it... you don't want to wait for an incident to find out the hard way like I did. I'd be interested in knowing if ANY of their tenants has gotten back their deposits. Another thing to look out for is storing belongings in the carports. Mine was broken into repeatedly and despite calls to get the lock fixed, they never got around to it.
