My husband and I lived in a third-floor 720 square-foot 1/1 for two years (from June 2003-June 2005). The apartments were three-years-old when we moved in and everything still looked nice and new. The kitchen was large, included a microwave and a washer/dryer unit. There was also a balcony and a water heater just for our unit. Plenty of closet space and other storage. The office staff was always incredibly polite and helpful and any maintenance issues were addressed and fixed within two days, max. At one point we had an issue with ants in the apartment, but after the pest control company came in and sprayed we never saw another ant ever again. The parking situation is a bit sticky, however. We only had one car so the assigned covered spot sufficed for us. However, when we had visitors, it was sometimes difficult for them to find a parking space. Also, twice we came home to someone parked in our assigned space. However, both times we called the security company that patrols the complex (indicated on a sign at the driveway in front) and the car was towed within an hour or so. Our deposit was only $99 so we were a little worried about charges upon move-out, but the total we owed only came to $26 (this included charges for four hours of cleaning and repainting of the bedroom). The rent increase the second year of our lease was only $13/month (from $1111 to $1124). There was a fair amount of occupant turnover in our immediate area. I think we had three or four next-door neighbours in the two years we were there and a couple adjacent units seemed to have as many tenants in that time as well. All-in-all, I had a wonderful experience at Archstone Monterey Grove. We only moved out because we were moving across the country. If I moved back to San Jose and needed an apartment, I'd probably look to return to Archstone Monterey Grove.

I love these comments that sound like and Archstone sales brochure describing all the feature of the unit. ("water heater just for our unit" doh!) Probably writen by a property manager...
