Hello everybody,
I am a resident here at the Cypress at North Park and had wanted to review this community for the benefit of many of you who may be plannning to move into these new apartments. However the Cypress community is not listed for review and for some reason my attempts to get the community listed with this website have failed. These reviews are only for the Cypress and I have had no interaction with the Pines/Oaks community and things may be different out there.
So, here is is :
#1 Confirm, re-confirm and then re-confirm again your move-in dates. The management here has exhibited unbelievable myopic visibility into what should be the dates the apartment would be ready for move in. I got a call three days prior to my move-in telling me that there was an "unfortunate" one-week push-out on the move-in date. I have met people in this community whose move-in dates were pushed out many times over before they got the possession of the apartment. The management does compensate you for the push-out time-period (two-weeks of rent for every one week of pushout is what they gave us), but it can be very discomforting to put up in hotels and pack all your stuff into a storage facility.
#2 Make sure your apartment is away from any major on-going construction. The noise can be very disturbing and loud, and the construction people start their drills early in the morning. A big criteria for light sleepers, good for me that I can sleep through an earthquake.
#3 There are no staircases (only elevators) from the parking lot that go directly to the apartment units. So, if the elevators are dysfunctional (which is so often) get ready to take a hike.
#4 Make sure you have gas in your complex before moving in .. because aside from having no gas to cook it means no hot water in shower ! To be fair to the apartment management, let me mention that they didn't charge us rent for the period we had no gas in the apartment.
#5 The apartments themselves are good and tastefully done, but lack finishing touches. The cabinets were painted poorly (requiring a re-coat), and the bathrooms have a smell (don't ask me of what)
#6 The apartments are not wired for AT&T cable, and have Direct TV installation which means that you have no choice but to subscribe to their expensive broadband subscriptions and DSL services. Make sure you so a cost comparison and understand the price difference between these two services for the same stuff.
#7 Parking would become a botheration subsequently .. not too many residents now, so there's a lot of space today, but once everybody moves in you'll have some trouble finding a spot to park your second car.
#8 Cypress has no swimming pool/fitness center as of yet. Construction is on-going and make sure to ask the management as to when they think the facilities shall be ready. One can however use the Pine/Oaks facilities.
#9 In my dealings I have found that the apartment management is generally responsive and communicative to most of the issues you tell them.
So, that's that. I hope this shall let you make a more informed decision.
