Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2005

I've lived here with my gf since June 2003. Our apartment faces Saratoga Ave, so it IS noisy throughout the day and night. Emergency vehicles drive by blaring their sirens and horns at ALL times (day/night). Sometimes they are courteous and just flash their lights until AFTER they pass the apts. (LATE at night, however), which is nice for those of us who are sleep. During the summer, the hottest part of the day has the sun gleaming into our apt. and our "A/C" unit isn't strong enough to cool the ENTIRE apt. I bought a portable one from Fry's to help. The tree in front of our apt. balcony is stripped of its leaves very often, so no shade is ever provided.
The apt. (1 bedroom) is small--625 sq. ft--and we pay WELL over $1000 in rent, not including phone/internet/water/elec. The appliances are OLD, but semi-functional. The carpet......the carpet always has stains (we don't wear shoes inside)! I've cleaned it TWICE w/ the Rug-Doctor, but it doesn't help. Lighting is poor inside and heaters don't work.
We have plants, 2 balcony chairs, 1 small balcony table, and wooden stand for the plants. Got numerous notices about wooden stand being a "fire hazard" and not to be on balcony. Approached staff about what IS allowed on balcony, said they would provide me a list, but never did. I just ignore the notices now.
Staff is semi-professional (some), but do need a refresher course on customer service (customer always right, right'). I work in Environ. Safety, so if I were to do an inspection HERE......just guess....! :*(
(and I LIVE here!)
Gym is pretty standard, but NO vents to clear out multiple musty B.O. We work out, we sweat.....why can't you air the room out'
Pool/jacuzzi are nice, but filled w/ kids during day. Nighttime is more romantic and/or relaxing after a long day.....but you have an audience (and they DON'T even pay, what a shame!).
Just recently allowed dogs (always allowed cats), but no "said" restriction on SIZE. C'mon, a 75-100lb German Shepard.....in a 400 sq. ft. STUDIO' I have a little 30 lb cocker-spaniel, just right for 1-bedroom.
Security tries to do its job, but only 2 people exist. One works VERY hard, the other......oh wait, I did say 2 didn't I.
I've had my vehicle stolen from INSIDE the "secure" gated garage.....twice in less than 3 weeks!! Management = "Oh, well we DON'T have cameras.....maybe we should get some!" You think' That's the problem.....no thinking.
BBQs: Just remodelled, but 75% still don't work. Gas powered babies, gets the job done....when you can actually use them. Multiple parties frequently.....who REFUSE to share. Like they'll actually MISS that ONE beer! I live here, you (probably) don't! ;)
Getting back to apt., toilet has NO power. Frequently clogs (I may be bad, but still.....). Shower has NO power, BUT is hot whenever you need it. We live on 3rd floor, so I take elevator (hey, I'm tired after a long day). Elevators don't work ALL the time. Laundary room facility is money-card activated. Comprised of (usually) 6 washer/dryers, outside company contract. Cost = $1.50/wash and $1.25/dry. Problem = washers don't work or are ALWAYS in use, same for dryers, and inconsiderate, flat-out-RUDE patrons trying to save money by using YOUR dime to wash/dry while YOUR STUFF sits in pile off to one side. Heating element of dryers needs increase. My test = ONE t-shirt to dry on highest setting, took $2.50 to do the job. SPIDERS......YES, SPIDERS everywhere. Minimum size I've seen....entire pinky nail. Maximum size.....too big for me! Squirrels all over....so are the ground rats (some as big as the squirrels, but they ARE good at hiding during the day and most of night).
Just increased our rent yet again, and for 625 sq. ft. its not worth it at all. I've complained to my gf about it, but its close to where she works so I've stopped. Hey, I can get a LARGER, NICER 2 bedroom for still less than what we pay. After the rate hike, we both agreed to bounce in the next couple of months to find that 2 bedroom apt. It was nice while it lasted here, got the job done. Now we'll move on to a REAL apt.
