Overall, not a bad place to live. The grounds stay neat and clean, things rarely break in my apartment, and no serious pest problems. I always feel safe, and the rent is reasonable.
Actually, when I first moved in, I got a great deal on my 2-bedroom, but the management company (G&K) ruthlessly raises the rent every year, insisting that it is fair below market. But G&K is comparing San Jose Greens to luxury and executive rentals, such as Oakwood, which offer a plethora of amenities that San Jose Greens does not. For example: -San Jose Greens has advertised "Pool coming soon" for almost three years now. This constitutes false advertising, because there have been absolutely no preparations for one, and even the manager told me not to hold my breath. -Also advertised is a workout center. This consists of 3 or 4 machines in a corner of the main lobby, which is only open during regular working hours, and everyone can watch you sweat. -The laundry rooms are expensive, so I never use them. I go visit my mommy instead. -Many luxury apartments offer a 24-front desk; no such luck here. ALL my UPS packages have to be re-routed, because the office is never open when they arrive. -Some of the apartments are newly remodeled, some aren't. I love the gas oven/range, but the ad should really note that dishwashers are only available in a very few units (I have never seen one).
Noise: The buildings are fairly well constructed. I usually can't hear my direct neighbors unless the toddler is screaming bloody murder or the teenagers have the bass cranked up. Most of the noise comes from the street: trucks, motorcycles, or high-pitched mechanized scooters (the current bane of my existance).
Neighbors: a real mix of ethnicities and professions. Most are very nice people, just wanting a nice safe quiet place to call home. 90% of my neighbor grief has come from one family and the obnoxious friends of their sons. A series of warning letters did improve their behavior dramatically; but I still know who to look to if there is any disturbance. The neighborhood in general is nice and safe, near to a hospital and freeways.
Grounds: I love the maintenance staff. Friendly and helpful. The balcony railing has been in desperate need of repainting, or at least sanding, for years, but that's another "don't hold your breath."
Problem-solving: depends on the urgency of the problem. Drains and window screens are taken care of promptly; parking issues and paperwork can drag on for months; if it involves the management company spending real money, forget about it.
Overall I love living here, and it's a comfortable life, but there is definite room for improvement.
