OK, I fully co-sign all the BAD reviews of Summerwind. Everything negative you've heard about Summerwind is the ABSOLUTE TRUTH!!! I urge you to read this carefully, because I have NO reason to lie. I am 34 yrs old right now. My mother was a struggling, single parent and unfortnately, we had to move into this complex in 1984. We lived there from 1984-1987. I was just a child, ages 11-14. And I kid you not, conditions were absolutely HORRENDOUS, even back then!!! The hallways were always (I repeat, ALWAYS) DARK, DENGY, GLOOMY and SMELLED OF URINE, it didn't matter what bldg you lived in either. However I lived in 2085, which was probably one of the worst bldgs. As a young kid, I was scared whenever my mom sent us to the store, because I had to pass the drunkards and drug dealers on the way down from the 3rd floor. Yes, people this was "the hood." Oh and by the way, this complex used to be called "Sunnywood" but I guess they made a name change, to sound more sophisticated.

OK- The ROACHES definately need to pay their share of the rent. These apts are breeding grounds for roaches. Plain and simple. No amount of RAID, defoggers or exterminators ever worked for us. They will leave for a day and come right back, since they seem to muliply over night. I could remember being so freightened as a child, to have to walk into the kitchen at night and flip on the light switch. At least a few dozen pregnant roaches would be scrambling all over the walls, counter tops and floor, trying to run and hide.

The carpets were old and soiled and Mgmt would never replace it and got very offended if you even inquired about the slight possibility of getting new carpet(how dare we even think about it!) In 1986, some new Mgmt came along and tried to re-vamp the place and they found reasons to evict all the current residents. They evicted us for "complaining too much" (seems not much as changed these days).

But want to know the scary part'

Out of curiosity, my brother and I recently went back to Summerwind to do a walk-through (this was October 2006. We wanted to see how the old place had changed etc... We were SHOCKED beyond belief, at what we had witnessed. It was like going back in a time machine! This place looks the SAME as it did in 1985!!!! No kidding!!!!

It is clear that N-O-T-H-I-N-G has been upgraded in the last 20 yrs!

The hallways are still dark, dengy and smelly. The hallway walls look like someone tried to do a cheap, rush job, by slapping some K-Mart paint on them, to cover up dents and holes. The hallway door knobs are either broken or missing altogether. Of course, Hallway lighting is (and has always been) pretty much non-existent. There's 20 yr old rust in the corners of the door hinges and all along the outside railings. The cement stairways are literally chipping and rotting away. Everything looks old and dated. The grass areas and bushes need major trimming and weeding. There is smelly trash in the grass and bushes. The underground parking lot... forget about it... There was NO WAY IN HELL we were going to put ourselves at risk by walking down that dark path.

Then what really gets me, is that they are going to have a nerve to have gates surrounding some sections of the complex, to give people the false impression that this is a "gated community." Yet if you walk up to any main entrance, of any bldg, you can go right up the stair case and gain entry into the hallways in a matter of 10 seconds! So, what purpose do these gates serve exactly'' (I'm waiting.....'')'

My brother and I were so upset over these conditions and our heart goes out to anyone who is currently living there. It really is dirty, unkept, very poorly mananged and unsafe place to live and especially to raise a family in.

THE PROPERY OWNER(S) SHOULD FEEL SO ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES!

I urge anyone planning to move here: PLEASE DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPLEX!!! PLEASE.

The supposedly cheaper rent does not make up for all the ROACHES and all the other bad health conditions and unsafe environment.

If you don't believe what the people are saying on this board, PLEASE do yourself a favor and take a visit for yourself. You will immediately see what everyone is talking about.

And for anyone else still living there, this post was not meant to hurt or judge you. I've lived here before, under these same conditons, so I know what it's like. PLEASE have hope and do whatever you can to GET OUT!! Make a plan to leave! Even if you and your family have to downgrade to a 1 or 2 bedroom. It would be better to take a NICE, clean 1 bedroom, over a slummy 3-bedroom ANYDAY. There are too many other nice apts in San Jose, to have to deal with this one. You'll be so happy when you finally leave this mess behind.

Please respond to this post if you have any further questions for me.

God Bless,
K

wow, haven't lived here in 19 years and still holding a grudge, let it go. I'm sure that there are some very good counselors who could help you through this.

You're either A) The Property owner, B) The property Manager or C) You're sleeping with one of the Roaches or D) All of the above.

AMEN to this!!! i'm currently living in this place, I could very much compare to the so-called hell, that we pretty much know what is like.. 1st, some1 took the weights for the wheel balance, only in the right side of my car, front and back.. got at home around 7 p.m. then found out about this about 11 p.m.!!! 2nd, I left at around 2:20 p.m. one day, got back in 20 mins., backed up my car, then boom!!! ran on something that wasn't there earlier.. what something??? plastic bottle caps with pieces of broken glass, and some screws!!! 3rd, which pissed me the most, the lug knots on my wheels were loosened.. drove my car in the a.m. to drop my gf to work, got home, then left in the afternoon to pick her up, I noticed that something is really wrong with my wheels, the fact that I just had it fixed at Sesrs for the weights, remember??? in a matter of 5 weeks!!! and it is very impossible to get your lugs loose on the road... i'm talking about three wheels here!!! this aint a joke no more!!! plus much much more!!!!!!! I think someone would need to make a blogsite for Summerwind Apts!!! And wanna hear the spookiest most disgusting experience I encountered here so far??!!!!! I found a splat of somewhat seems like dried blood!!! I found this at the vert corner of the living room, on the backside of the blinds!!! I tried to get some luminol to test if it's blood, but my cop friend is on-leave right now.. tested it my self with hydrogen peroxide, and I thought there's bubbles formed on the q-tip with a specimen of the 'splat'!!! hydrogen peroxide produces bubbles when blood is present, but this is more accurate on fresh blood!!! i'll let you guys know what's up, once I here from the lab!!! FCUK this place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and them haters who live here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I live here at the moment and all of this is all true, probably worse, my car had total of 15K dollars in damage inside and out, and i found out the neighbors that had vandellized it and i threaten them, that was also the last time they had done anything. Now they've made wholes in my sliding doors of my kids bedroom like they're trynna get in and we put a safety lock and it's impossible to get in and i fear for our safety but not everyone can afford to just get up and go to a better place. The moving costs money, and it is a horrible place from hell to live in, but some of us will just have to put up with it for as long as we can. For those who can move up, good for you. The management has changed four times on me and they've even towed my car by mistake and not once. They lost not me. I make them fix my problems, even with the roaches. I called in two weeks in a row and we even had the city of san jose come in for inspections, but the 3 time, they had to spray all the apts, not just mine, and they loose everytime, cause they got to pay. I made them cut down a bush on the side of the entrance to the garage. I raise hell. They need to make my money worth. Sure i pay, but i make them work for my money. Good Luck to y'all!!!!!!

Dear Minimoe, Thank you so much to share this with us. I myself appreciate your brave and concern to share your experience because you care, and it's not about holding grudge like others said/may say - You don't want others experience what you'd been through. I've been thinking to take this place because the rent is only $1145 for 2BR! no wonder is so cheap. Again, thank you. and thank God that you are not living there anymore. God bless you & your family.

This review is absolutely correct. I have only lived here for two months and I have all the same kids. I am looking to move out because no matter what the cost it isn't worth it to live in a dirty, moldy, roach infested apartment. I have to do the same thing, turn on the kitchen lights and let the bugs go back home so I can have my time in the kitchen. The staff sucks, never follows up and I have had the same outstanding work orders since I moved in. I pay over $1400 to live in the ghetto and a dump of an apartment when there is condos and townhouses in clean areas for about the same price. These people are on crack to think that their apartments are worth more than the penny they invest in the upkeep. Watch our for you kids too cause they have poisionous flowers on the landscaping grounds too.

You know, childhood memories require a "walkthrough" literally and psychologically. Obviously your mom's struggle and your environment made an impression and it was brave of you to share. I actually visited the slum that I had to live in when I was in college and had the same experiences. Good job.It is so sad. Some of the folks there should try to get in as roommates, especially the single moms with kids--rent a bigger house and try to save some money. It isn't worth it to live in Silicon Valley. Honestly, Indiana looks the same and you would have a better quality of life.

I made an appointment to come over in a hour but I will be a no show after reading this review. It is very helpful to read what people have to say about a place. I am going to the condo which is pricey but there aren't any other good option at this time. Thanks for posting your experience.
