I am a past tenant of a Spieker Companies, Inc. property managed by Richard Tod Spieker and Michael Stephan Damron. I am filing a Federal Discrimination law suit with a deadline of September 2004. I urgently need past tenants and employees who have been harmed by this company, who rented slum properties, who were unlawfully evicted, etc. If you can be a witness for me, I want to legally remove this company from the business of buying and renting HUD properties including section 8, and I want to file complaints with the state Real estate commission to remove their real estate licenses. Susan A. Gill, Email: Nowletsbehonest@aol.com, 818-905-2398. Please help us all!!!! Thank you!

Spieker Companies Sucks,
They recently boutght 244 N Ellsworth Apartment (2008,feb) and gave notice to all of the tenants to move within 60 days. There were pregnant ladies too who were due on the last of march.
They suck and i dont think god will forgive them for what they did to all the tenants of 244 N. Ellsworth, asking everyone to move out when they could have just raised a reasonable price, in the time when it was very hard to find the aparmtnet.
Dont be their tenant they can do anything anytime, they suck !

We had just a washer and dryer in an apartment and they took away. It has already been three days and the Manager Ari Sufiati always is seeking for excuse.. sometimes saying home depo didn't deliver and so so. I dont buy that...They are not taking our problem seriously..and I have a hell lot of clothes to get washed ! They are SUCKERS, anyone trying to rent their properties, learn a lesson from us. They'll make you fell so much agitated !
I will be the one to cheer, when they will be out of business !

Spieker companies bought an apartment I'd lived in for years. They did several months of remodeling (claiming it would only take six weeks). Then, they raised the rent (after claiming they would not do so.) During months of remodeling, residents were told to "move all their belongings six feet from the wall". They took out old, safe shower doors, and replaced them with new, flimsy ones that looked better. The apartment manager (who was apparently later given an award by the company) forced me to move plants that I'd had for years, claiming that they were a fire hazard. They seem to take any suggestions as affronts. Which, perhaps, they should. This is a nasty company with no compassion, no sense of aesthetics, and truth be told apparently marginal business sense. Avoid any property they own.

I'm a former corporate employee and this all sounds like very accurate information. The owner uses thess patterns of behavior on a regular basis, thus the corporate office has an attrition rate well over 60% due to harassment, intimidition, discrimination, unfair labor practices and discrimination in housing. Tod Spieker thinks he's untouchable, keep double sets of books, cheats HUD, the IRS, taxpayers and tenants.

I am an employee and I think this is the best company to work for. I been an apartment manager for over 10 years working for different owners. They treat their employees right. Very supportive. This is USA and everywhere you go there are rules. If you sign the lease you agree to their terms. If you don't follow those house rules, they ask you a couple of times nicely and respectful to correct the problem. If you don't fix the problem they will ask you to move. Simple.
About buying and remodeling the buildings they buy..Sorry about that, every new home owner and apartment complex would probably do the same thing to be able fix the buildings or clean the rat infested old buildings they buy.

The above comments from an employee of the company demonstrate the lack of respect the company has for its CUSTOMERS - tenants, who not only pay rent but also have legal rights to live in quiet, comfortable surroundings without unecessary disruption. Your company is not giving the rental away - we're PAYING YOU. Most business owners know that their reputations flourish when they communicate with their customers, treat them fairly and resolve complaints in a decent way. They create "good will" and have customers who refer other customers, purchase other goods and lend credibility to the business. This company does not treat tenants like paying customers. They make costmetic repairs to apartments that cause major disruption to the rental unit and do things in a secretive fashion - suddenly, you get a notice that a major noisy, messy construction project is happening on the property within a few days. Rather than tell tenants all of the work that will be performed, so tenants can prepare, they dole out tiny bits of information. They hire the most unprofessional contractors who perform shoddy work with cheap materials and actually make the apartments look worse when they are done. They should remember that many of their tenants would be future customers, purchase a home from them, refer friends to them and say nice things about them if they were treated courteously and respectfully. This would create more business for the company, which most companies want. And then maybe the above nasty employee wouldn't lose her job in the future because no one wants to rent the properties this company manages. Which will happen if you piss off enough tenants. No one I know who lives in properties they remodel would rent from them again or refer others to them.

I am a former employee of Spieker I would never refer any of my friends to work or rent any of their properties. They have no clue what customer service or resident retention are. Most of the resident managers and their supervisors are professional good people, but they have to follow instructions of upper management who's goals is to make a profit at all costs. There is so much politics, verbal abuse, discrimination, and strange practices at the corporate level. The people in upper management may have been in the business for a while but are so inexperienced when it comes to managing people. They no concept of respect, labor laws and industry standards. Tod Spieker LOVES to raise the rents as much as possible-this is true. The managers at the properties become complacent because they have no control so you can't blame them. They constantly have to keep renting to new people because people get mad and move out all the time. They usually hire less experienced managers who just aren't aware so they can train them the way they want. Most people are in shock when they first come to the company but they are living on the property so it's hard to just pick up their entire family and move. The company does a lot of their renovation projects without permits. They do a lot of very shady things. Don't trust them.
