I have lived here for 2 years because it is convenient to CSUSM and Camp Pendleton, however they are run my MAS Macbeth Apartment Systems, and they are heartless. They have raised my rent 15% despite me paying my rent on time every time for 2 years- they are very greedy. It is located in the middle of the ghetto and yet they charge upwards of $1000. The townhome apartments are about 1200 square feet and are two stories, however there is no central ac and therefore you cannot even go to the 3rd floor during hot months and that is where the master bedroom is, plus it's CA so it is always hot! These apartments are located on the 78 freeway so you get the noise and pollution, my husband has developed asthma since we moved here. There are often robberies and car thefts, although the management will swear against it, 2 of my neighbors have been robbed in a 6 month period. The apartment manager, Angie Perez, is a very nice woman however she has no control over rent prices or other problems in the apartments. The apartments were built rather cheaply and there are holes hidden under carpet, etc. that allow for drafts- not to mention that everyone who lives here smokes and it comes through the walls and floors. All in all, this is about as good as it gets in San Marcos according to friends that I have who live at other apartment complexes in this city- but for this rent price, I would rather give up the vaulted ceilings and have air conditioning and proper heating for $1000/month. I would not recommend moving here if you plan on living a long healthy life- it is like a hazardous waste dump @ Benchmark. BuLYzGcKAVo8MQPlcXJq

This poster doesn't have a clue about living in SoCal. According to demographic profiles, San Marcos is NOT inner-city and, therefore, does not fall in the realm of "ghetto." Also, it's not ALWAYS hot here so I'm guessing she's from an area that doesn't get good weather so many days of the year. Please do not judge Benchmark based on this person's opinion. I've lived here for almost two years now, and I have not encountered any problems. This woman is pretty clueless about living in San Diego, much less about living in California, period. Angie and her staff do a pretty good job of running the place and while this community definitely would never fall under the label "luxury," the apartments/townhomes are acceptable for what you have to pay. I'm sure there is sticker shock if you come from an area with a much lower cost of living, but SD is one of the most expensive areas to live in in CA (I think only two CA counties are more expensive). You have to take that cost of living increase into consideration to live out here.

First of all do not listen to the review that fewgoodapts wrote. The person who wrote the review probably got evicted, and is just here to post hateful nonsense. As for it being hot here, it's sunny here 24/7! San Diego County is right next door to the desert for crying out loud. 99.9% of the things mentioned in that review are absolutely not true. San Marcos is NOT a ghetto town. In fact it's one of the more expensive areas of San Diego County. It's across the street from an elementary school. It has tons of restaurants, and shops right on the same street. For a city such as San Marcos, the price is right. It's not luxury by a long shot. It does have a few flaws here and there. My only complaints are; no central air, not enough closet space, and thin walls/ceiling.
