I've lived in a studio in this complex for about seven months. I really like it. I've never liked an apartment enough -I've lived in four other apartments previously- to bother posting about it on this site.
* Location. It's part of downtown San Mateo, which is nice, walkable, safe, and full of neat restaurants. There's like a dozen restaurants within two blocks of the apartment, many offering take-out if you want, and that's only a small fraction of downtown. I especially enjoy, probably too much, the donut shop on the nearby corner. Convenience to the CalTrain is, at times for me, handy. Driving to 101 doesn't take long either (5 minutes').
* It's quiet. I don't know if my neighbors are really quiet or whether the building is very solidly built, but I never hear them. With my balcony window closed, I don't hear the CalTrain either (though my apartmant doesn't face the tracks directly).
* Good staff. I enjoy the fact that the management cares for the tenants and does the little things right. For instance, I got a little gift bag when moving in and often for holidays find a little bag of candy/treats by my door. The only time I had a aintenance problem -the switch for my overhead fan stopped working-, I told them in the morning and they fixed it that day.
* Convenient laundry. There are ample laundry machines in the basement.
* Nice other people. The people in the building are a nice mix from students, young working professionals, middle aged people (a few with kids), to elderly (there's a hospital next door, so I guess it's convenient if you need medical care').
* Pool and weight room. Really, I didn't think I'd care about this when I moved it. I didn't count it as a factor in making a rental decision. However, I discovered that the convenience of having an exercise room, while admittedly small, in the same building actually meant I started exercising. :)
* Fast elevators. Seriously. I barely ever have to wait any significant amount of time.
