I moved to Mansion Grove in 2007 and renewed my lease in April for a full year at a higher monthly rent. I can no longer recommend this complex. I suggest you look elsewhere. My reasons are explained below.
We moved to these apartments since we really liked the quiet environment and beautiful landscaping. We also really liked the facilities like swimming pool, fitness center and the proximity to Don Callejon school and the Rivermark shopping center.
However, this year, we found out that several new buildings are going to be constructed in what are currently parking lots in between buildings. A significant chunk of landscaping will be taken over and the entrances to underground garages relocated. The plan is to add 124 new apartments to a complex to 876 apartments for a full total of 1000 apartments. According to the documents filed with the Santa Clara City Council, the total number of parking spaces will go down from the current 1.8 per apartment to 1.7 per apartment.
Here is what is going to happen: 1. Construction from 2008 - 2010. Two full years of loud noise every day, torn up sidewalks, construction crews obstructing common areas, increased theft, water shutoffs, accidents. 2. Overall reduction in parking. Currently, it's hard to find parking for the second car in the evenings. 3. No access to facilities like Fitness Center, Swimming pool etc. for several months especially during the summer when the pool is used. 4. After the buildings are constructed, no more looking out at beautiful landscaping. Now, you get to see more buildings. (A tall wall 10 feet outside your balcony does not make for a relaxing environment). Summerwood apartments had the same issue and we decided not to live there. 5. More people to share the common facilities with. It's gonna get crowded. More kids in the school and the elementary school is already over-crowded. The pool and fitness center will get crowded. Quality of life is going to go down sharply,
The current apartments are over 17 years old. We have already had the fridge, dishwasher and the stove replaced this year since the older appliances that we got at the start of the lease had broken down. But, we had to specifically request that they be replaced otherwise they were happy to let me continue to use the old equipment. I am also really annoyed with the LOUD exhaust fans in the bathroom and I mean they are *LOUD*. I had the fan motors replaced three times but to no avail. I even offered to pay to have a new moderb quiet fixture put in. But, the maintainence engineers refused to let me do that since it would require modifying the framing above the bathroom roofs. I really really dislike the exhaust fans in the bathroom.
I am paying almost $2000 a month - almost luxury apartment rates. I expect a quiet, relaxing environment to live in for that much money. With the construction and the reduction in the amenities and reduction in the quality of life, I feel that I am not getting value for my money.

I agree with you on the bathroom fans. They are horribly loud.

You're right, the fans suck! My upstairs neighbor starts beating on the ceiling whenever the fan is going because it's too loud for him too. I asked Mansion Grove to replace them and was completely ignored. Of course.
