I have lived here for a year and a half and I plan to move out at the end of the year. When I moved into Marina Village West I was very happy with it.
The first thing that struck me as odd was the staff. M and S are alright, although S does come across as a little stuck up to me. The property manager has a condescending air to her, not to mention she is not the most professional looking of people. Another user described her as running around her office as if it were the playboy mansion with a spray tan. This for the most part is true, she is scantily clad most days, but she is polite for the most part.
The next thing I had a problem with was the insulation. You can hear you neighbors if they are making a decent amount of noise, but I live on the top so I imagine it's worse on the bottom. It gets very cold in the Winter and very hot and stuffy in the Summer. They just replaced all of the doors and windows (which was a pain in and of itself) but it hasn't gotten really cold yet so I can't tell you if it's gotten any better.
The laundry room is also a pain. People leave their clothes in there way longer than they should so sometimes you have your clothes removed from the washers and dryers, whether it's been sitting there 10 minutes or an hour. They just raised the prices from $1.00/wash to $1.25/wash and .75/dry. The laundry rooms are usually left open so you will see non-residents taking up all of the washer and dryers frequently, although someone removed the door stop from our laundry room recently so the door locks every time it is closed.
Someone has tried to break into my boyfriend's car before, although I haven't had any problems with mine.
They inconsistently lock the gate, so if you have more than one vehicle you'll have to drop $40 for a deposit on another gate opener because the do not have an access code.
Their maintenance is not contracted out, they live on site. Their rent is free and they are paid hourly and do a shoddy job. The response time is quick for the most part but sometimes it can take days, depending on what it is.
The grounds are pretty and kept up for the most part. Although last fall they let the tree outside my apartment become overgrown and I had to trim it back from the staircase myself a few times before they totally chopped it up and killed my allergies (and I normally don't have any). When the shrubs are trimmed you can expect to see the clipping laying around for a day or two before they are picked up
For the most part Marina Village West is O.K. but nothing more. It is a very large complex and so the experience is very impersonal and I imagine very different, depending on what section you live in. Some people are okay with that but I grow happier as my move out day approaches.

My husband and I stayed here for 9 months and we cant wait to finish our contract for a year. We hate the place so much. First, the maintenance people were very slow, it takes weeks to fix things. We did not notice a gap in the wall in our bedroom until winter time where cold air goes inside the apartment. Theres a cracks in the wall. My husband slippers were stolen from outside our doorsteps when he just left there for few minutes. Office people were also liars. They had a Christmas light tournament, and when we called the office they said that we won, but when we went to the front office and asked about our prize they had exclaimed that some else has won. Honestly, we can't wait to move!!!
