The complex has a fence around it, but it doesn't do much good when all of the gates are either left open or broken all of the time. Transients roam the complex at night, dumpster-diving and breaking into mailboxes. No apartment complex can be 100% safe, but here apartment burglaries, car break-ins, and mail theft are rampant.

The office staff's response to all of this is to just tell the tenants it's not their problem because they don't guarantee our safety or security. And this is just where the unprofessionalism begins. Telephone messages are never returned. Rent checks are lost. Maintenance issues are not followed-up on. And every communication from the office, whether it's a lease renewal reminder or a policy update, reads like an accusation of wrongdoing, full of the derision the management has for the tenants.

On top of all this, I recently heard that Equity Residential has been sued for illegally taking improper deductions from security deposits. Apparently, even moving out won't stop the drama.
