Yo!

Mixed bag - overall a great place to live in LA.

I will try to be brief and to the point. I have lived in 2 different size apartments at the Archstone Studio Colony. The rents are higher and continue to rise. I originally paid $910 for a top floor 420 Sq. Ft. studio. The rent did go up to $930 and then they started charging for what was "free basic cable". The charge was $20. I moved to a top floor larger studio (515 Sq. Ft.) $1060/month. The studio was darker but larger and had a dishwasher. The cable fee went up to $40 a month. I lived here for 4 1/2 years and it was mostly great. My friends admired me for living in a great community and I enjoyed it too. Be aware these studios now start at $1100/month for lower floor units.

I am now getting ready to move into the "new" former Legacy at Studio City building. The place has won builder awards and is only 2 years old. My rent will go up to $1585/month for a 1st floor 1 bedroom - almost the same as what they charge for a 1 Bedroom in the Colony area. I will let you know how I enjoy living in what Archstone calls "The Gallery".

I am choosing to leave "The Colony" because it has become "Ghetto". This is no lie or joke. Loud parties to all hours of the night. Security told us to call the police several times. Lori the old manager was transferred out and she was the BEST! I miss her tremendously. The rec room has been transformed into a Sales Floor. No more pool table or parties. The sense of community and "peace of mind" are gone from the Colony. Also, there are lots of bugs in the Colony and the electric bills are high. The park setting is wonderful though. The gym, grills and pool areas often need repair/cleaning. Lots of "Ghetto" parties going on in the grill area and pool area too. I am sad to see the Colony turn into a "less desirable" community, but I am afraid it has.

I am hoping that "The Gallery" (formerly the Legacy at Studio City) will feel safer, cleaner and saner. More shall be revealed.
