I moved into the Gallery at Archstone Studio City at the beginning of April 2005.
PROS: I must say that this place is very convenient. All the amenities are FABULOUS! The gym is really a terrific space. LOVE IT! Apartments are loaded with amenities and style. Marble counter tops, new top of the line appliances, washer and dryer, tiled floors, hardwood floors in the bathroom and great patios. This is not your average complex. Very chic.
CONS: (I hate this part) EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE for THE VALLEY! The hall floors are filthy dirty. Floors often have cigarette butts stamped out everywhere. You open your door and there are several butts outside your door. GROSS! Water fountains have garbage and cigarette butts floating around. Disgusting! Many "LA 20 SOMETHING BRATS" running around, screaming in the halls at all hours with no respect for other tennants or the property. Plain jerks. Guest parking is a nightmare. Spaces in the guest parking area or on the street are near impossible to find. Big problem if you have guests over. The rec room closes at 5 PM. This is stupid. Who plays pool or watches a big screen TV during the day' Who is home to use this facility' No one! We are all working to pay the rent. Except for the rich brats who live here. My apartment had many flaws when I moved in. The people before trashed it and it took 2 weeks to get all of my service requests completed. I had to contact corporate to make it happen. They have inexperienced staff answering the phones and they lack true customer service skills. I called back many many times to get action. Move-in was a nightmare. I do not think that this is always the case though. Just make sure your apartment is acceptable before you sign the lease. I did not feel moved in until all of my major problems were fixed. So BEWARE!
I will say that I do like it here and feel the apartment is worth the rent price. With apartment rents in LA sky-rocketing, this place is a chic escape from the dumps that are out there for the same price. The worst part of living here is having to live with the disrespectful younger crowd. Some treat this beautiful property as if it is the ghetto. Seriously. They have no class or respect for neighbors or the building. Very disheartening. I hope that these bad apples will eventually get weeded out. Also, I must report that I have seen signs posted by other tennants asking for information on their stolen vehicle and belongings, offering rewards for information. This is not good. I guess you must take the good with the bad. This is life in LA. Chic on the outside but insane, fast and furious inside. Extremely transient. Enjoy! 3mPoZ6gGN6wTPgNi4L2C

This is soooo true. I have often seen dog do-do on the floor in the halls. How can people be so filthy and careless? Archstone does not care either. They can keep a revolving door going by offering low move-in costs. This attracts lots of seedy types. I have seen that the gate is not really secure and anyone can walk in to all of the properties unannounced. This is terrible because it is supposed to be a "secured gated community". The rec room not being opened is a shame. The gangsta rappers take over the BBQ's on the weekend and hog all of the grills. They are so trashy and are probably the ones who have stolen all the vehicles. Last week Archstone sent out a letter telling everyone that they are not responsible for the thefts in apartments and cars. They said "if you are violated, call the police - don't call Archstone." That is pretty much verbatim. So you decide... is this place really worth it ???
