Earlier reviews of the Caltrain being annoying are accurate. We live on the side right next to the tracks, and the apartment does indeed shake everytime a train goes by. The worst are the Freight Trains which come thru at the wee hours of the morning and almost every weeknight around 11pm and 2am. The dishes in the cabinet shake, and the sofa feels like a hammock. One might questions the structural integrity of the building in a couple of years. The part about keeping the windows open is true. Not only will you get the train exhuast, but the trains blow their horns almost everytime they come by. Which will make you sit straight up in bed from a sound sleep. This is important to note, because the airconditioning system is not central air, and in the summer times you may need to keep your windows open at night to keep cool. Somthing else to note, is that even though there is a gate on the garage, we managed to have the stereo stolen from one of our vehicles. Which reminds me, you are only assigned one parking space, an additional space will cost you more and more everytime you renew your lease.
On the good side, the apartment is new, and very modern. The management is very very nice. I sometimes feel sorry for them, because this would be a pretty good property if not from the train and the airconditioning issues. But they seem to really care. We will see what happens with our security deposit when we move out. Hopefully they won't pull an Avalon Silicon Valley on us, and keep 90% of the deposit for some bogus reason. At least the deposit was not as much.
