Do not live here

I'll start by saying: Do yourself a favor and do NOT rent an apartment here. It looks beautiful and upscale, Burbur carpet, hardwood kitchen floor, etc., but it is cheap construction. In my 18 months here, the elevators were out of service 50% of the time. The hot tub was hot but no bubbles. The front gate was broken. The garage door was broken (once it broke and we were all stuck inside -- I couldn't go to work for four hours). I had major problems with ants in my kitchen and bathrooms, and on a Thursday evening I was told "we'll be there to take care of it Tuesday morning." My front doorway was broken and it took four phone calls and their fix was masking tape. The toilet has been "fixed" three times and makes noise all night long. The last two days there has been dog *&%$ on the parking garage floor. Finally, the heat from my heater vents was so hot that it melted a heat deflector and CD cases next to it -- I ended up never allowing heat to be on while I was out of the apartment.
As enticement to sign up for this place, the rental manager (I won't say her name, but it's mentioned in other reviews) lied in several ways (and from reading other reviews here, guess she uses the same lines on everyone):
1. There's Central air. False. Turns out there's a vent in one bedroom but not the other -- my bedroom baked in the summer.
2. Just plug in to get DirecTV. False. You either buy an expensive dish for your balcony, or purchase a subscription that gives you crummy scaled down satellite with reduced channel set and no HDTV -- I've seen better quality video on the internet.
3. The train noise stops at 10 pm becuase it's just the commuter rail. False. It's also freight, which runs all night long, and they blow their horns since the station and crossing is right next door. On the topic of noise, there's also Moffett nearby, which means you have fly-overs that make you feel like you're in Baghdad.
Oh, and the fire alarms... they go off all the time. I turn my oven on and the things start shrieking, and they're all linked together, and you can't turn them off, and the office says they'll fix them but they merely swap them for another identical unit that goes off the instant you boil water. You ask the office for a copy of your lease and they never give it to you. Once I was promised a renewal rate and when I went in to sign, I was told that that rate was impossible and I couldn't have it -- oh, and conveniently, that rental agent no longer worked here. Also, if you actually work for a living, make sure to never receive a package at home that ends up "safely" in the office. Since they open after you go to work, and close before you get home, and randomly shut down over the weekends, I have had FedEx packages locked in there for 7 or 8 days. All of this for the low, low price of $1750 a month that then increased to $2075/month when I renewed. I know it's tempting to live right next to Murphy Street but do yourself a favor -- sleep in the train station, you'll be happier. uWDgQKY3Vkv8FKIsB8Ax
