Not Worth the $

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2007
I lived at the Alexan for a few years, and I saw new ownership, new managers, etc. come and go. The complex is in a good location--close to transportation, downtown Sunnyvale, and the soon-to-be downtown plaza.
While I patiently waited in anticipation for the new upgrades to occur, I made the command decision to move out for one reason, and one reason only: Management. The manager in place today abruptly took over almost a year ago, tragically, because she lacks one very important quality: Respect for other human beings.
I've never met a person lacking in customer service more than her, and that's if you can catch her in the office. After the old manager left, life at the Alexan quickly became like it was with the old old manager, Peggy. My work orders suddenly never got done, she could barely remember what apartment I lived in let alone my name.
It was a harsh change considering her predecessor remembered everything, talked to the residents, and really created a sense of "home". The new manager in place today is rude, curt, and VERY condescending. For the price I was paying for my apartment, I would expect some level of consideration.
Despite the good location, you will run into hoodlums, and the now ghetto atmosphere. The gates are always broken, the walk-in access gates don't even need security because you can slip your hand around the door and open it from the inside(it's always been that way). Cars are regularly broken into, and when I reported suspicious behavior within the complex, the manager just sort of non-chalantly said, "thanks, I'll take it into consideration." That's not exactly the comforting statemnet I was looking for while reporting it. Plus if you're noise sensitive, you'll never sleep. Cal Train is right behind the complex and Moffet is just down the way, so trains and jets are a constant noise problem. Don't let them convince you about the windows, as nice as they say they are, they don't work.
For the seemingly endless rent raises, I moved out. You can live at Cherry Orchard, a much nicer complex, for the same money. And you'll be just as close to downtown as the Alexan. I wasn't the first to move out either. An exodus of people left on the same basis. And if you're looking to save money, you'll likely find a cheaper apartment for way better service in Sunnyvale.
It's your decision, but if you like being treated like an annoying disruption each time you can catch someone in the office, don't live here. SROlYjGrgm2VnM-SactV
