I moved in 1 year ago at $1000/month rent. When it came time to renew, they wanted to up my rent to $1382/month, a 38.2% increase! They are advertising the same apartment for new occupants at $1100 per month. It's a Bait and Switch model to the extreme.
The apartments are all run down inside. The cabinets are all water damage particle board. The paint job is cheap and all the doors are chipping. It is a slum in the middle of Sunnyvale.
It's run my Equity apartments http://www.equityapartme and I believe the Equity runs all their apartments this way. THERE IS NO EQUITY IN THIS BUSINESS!!!!. They'll take you for anything they can.
They recently painted the outside of the apartments and put on new roofs. This was cosmetic to have
a good "curb appeal". The jobs were cheap and poorly done. When I asked them to do some repairs on my apartment, they did not know how to fix them. I had to redo them myself and pay out of my pocket for any quality.
Avoid this apartment and Equity like the plague.

Equity means you're getting something out of it. How about the Rent with Equity thing where you earn money to buy a new home... hmmm....
