Our experience was great until they screwed us on the security deposit

That's right, we had a great experience living at the Avalon Silicon Valley. Michael, our leasing consultant quickly helped us find a great apartment to live in. We lived in the building with the front desk downstairs so noise from the freeway was minimal. Parking is a problem if you have more than one car. They give you one assigned space and then it's a free for all for the guest spaces across from the front desk entrance. If you get back home before 7pm on the weekdays you should be fine. After that, you'll probably have to park across the street at the hotel.
One of the best things is the maintenance. When our dishwasher broke, I emailed them that night and it was fixed by noon the next day.
When our lease was up, the renewal price for the next year was $75 more per month than we were already paying. It was too much for a 1 bedroom/1 bath so we decided to leave.
Now comes the part where they screwed us. I've read about it in previous reviews but didn't think it'd happen to us. We cleaned, vacuumed, etc. for over four hours before we moved out and pretty much left it the same way it was when we moved in.
Well, about ten minutes ago I got the security deposit statement. Out of the $400 we paid, we're getting back $5. They might as well have just kept it. They charged us for 6 hours of cleaning, 3.5 hours for "touch-up" painting, $50 for carpet cleaning, and over $200 to replace the bathroom tile.
So basically this is how they don't spend any of their own money doing apartment maintenance. They wait till the renter moves out and then makes the renter pay for all the maintenance.
I recommended it compared to other "dumps" we looked at but be very aware, when you write that security deposit check, you won't be getting most of it back when you move out.
