I lived in Parkside Commons for over 2 years. It was my aversion to moving and NOT because P.C. was such a great place that we stayed that long. Here is a list of my problems with the place:
(1) Parking is HORRIBLE - especially if you live near the rental office. Do not believe the front office's song-and-dance about the underground parking freeing up room for everyone else. If I came home after 9 or 10pm, there would be zero places to park. And if you're familiar with the area, you'll notice that the only other place to park is a dark, scary alley across a super wide and busy street miles from your home. When informed about the potential dangers of this arrrangement, the management (a) did not care and (b)did not offer any solution except to RENT an underground space for some outrageous sum of money.
(2) Avalon is greedy. During the housing boom, the rent there rose exponentially. When it seemed every other apartment complex in the area was lowering its prices, this company RAISED my rent and refused to negotiate it at the time of my lease renewal. The management mumbled something about Avalon policy. If that policy is to unreasonably raise rents out of proportion to the value of the property, well....
(3) Poor construction. Expect to live VERY closely with your next-door, upstairs and downstairs neighbors. If children live above you, get accustomed to the patter (or THUMP THUMP THUMP) of little feet.
(4) Management. Even if the problem you present may not have a simple solution, it is somewhat reassuring that the management at least WANTS to help. Not so with P.C. Although I tried to avoid making any kind of complaint or request to the front office, I was always met with a reluctance to help verging on annoyance. Not appreciated for the comparatively large sums of money being doled out each month!
Good luck with your apartment search but PLEASE AVOID AVALON! (and parkside commons)
