Brookside Oaks is probably one of the nicer properties in Silicon Valley if you like a "neighborhood" kind of environment. It's location is great: Cupertino to the South, and Los Altos to the West. Each are literally one street over.

The property is close to an elementary school under the Cupertino Union School District. While the area is nice, the rents are outrageous! A one bedroom apartment can be around $1,860/month. You won't get a covered garage. You won't even get air conditioning! Unfortunately, the property is not even guarded or gated. Theft can happen. I had my car broken into while parked under my private carport!

They're banking on the fact that you're living in the heart of Silicon Valley near the prized neighborhoods of Los Altos and Cupertino. Their just plain greedy! Hopefully, now that the dot.com fallout has finally sunk into most landlords' heads, rents will come down.

The management is responsive most of the time. However, you must speak to a live person. They never return voice mail calls and they don't reply to fax or e-mail.

The laundry room is old and can be dirty at times. It costs $1.25 to wash and $1.00 to dry. You'll have to be patient about getting a chance to do laundry. It can be full at times.

The apartments themselves are clean and well maintained. Refrigerators are in all units. Best location if you can find it is an apartment facing West looking toward trees and brook. The brook is very nice during winter when the rains fill the creek.

Aside from the ridiculous rents, the place is nice and will definitely please you if you want to live in a neighborhood that is surrounded by homeowners and no other apartment communities. Brookside Oaks is not "apartment row." It's a pleasant place to live, and looks most beautiful in the Fall!
