good amenities but stinking hallways and pests

I moved in rather recently, and did not see the management problems mentioned in reviews dated back to earlier times. Management is mostly women but they are not old or bitchy, they are always nice.

Pros:

-The rent is reasonable, thanks to the recession. Actually this was the best rate I could get for a 2 bedroom in a complex with so many amenities in this neighborhood.

-There are 3 pools and a jacuzzi, although only the largest pool is heated and regularly cleaned.

-There are free tennis lessons, scuba diving lessons for a reasonable price, free movies, barbecues with really cheap fee, nice community events.

-Management is responsive, they fixed all issues I have faced within 24 hours except one.

-Parcel service is a great thing for working people, no more worrying about picking parcels, you can go pick them from the office.

-Walking distance to Albertsons, 2-3 minute driving to major stores/pharmacies and very easy access to freeways.

-Balconies are large, laundry facilities are nice and very clean, and machines use smartcards so you don?t have to deal with change.

-Landscaping is great! Nice smelling flowers everywhere, there is a little artificial stream and pond.

-Free tea and coffee available in the office at the pool side.

-Gym is not bad, it's not well ventilated though.

-There are lliards/pool and ping pong rooms, valleyball court, big tennis court, bathrooms/showers at the pool side, at the gym, and additional bathrooms in the office.

-Bus stops are right outside for those who use mass transit.

-Also, you can use amenities for free on the other complexes that belong to the same company if you are traveling.

Now cons:

-I agree that the hallways stink of curry. Most of the tenants are Indian so no surprise there. I kind of expected it, since the majority of the populaiton seems to be Indian in this town.

-Some loud neighbors. I have complained to the management many times and they gave those people warnings but nothing changed. I wake up with stomping on top of my bedroom at 2-3 am. I recommend you to bang on the ceiling or walls with a broomstick, this usually works.

-There is a serious bee problem at the large pool. There were huge nests, the management gets them removed and sprayed if you complain, but I heard from the older tenants that it repeats every year. Lots of bees land in the pool, some of them fly around and bother people.

-There are also some uncivilized people, there is a certain group who plays very loud music all the time at the pool and this is a great disturbance. I had to hear enough lame 80's European disco music to last me a lifetime. People who want silence take refuge at the smaller pools which are dirty and cold.

-I agree that there is a cockroach problem, you need to isolate your door with weatherstrips or disgusting critters will crawl from the threshold and infest your apartment.

-No storage. The closets are really large though.
