We just moved out of fair oaks west apartments after 2 years. I will divide this review into 4 parts pros, cons, comparison with other apartments and conclusion.

Pros:-
1) centrally located: It is close to almost everything and by close I mean walkable distance. Safeway, Longs drugs, Restaurants, Pep boys, Fedex, library, block busters etc.
2) Community: One undeniable fact about this apartment is the excellent community features. It is by far the best community in the area. 4 swimming pools, 4 tennis courts, 4 pool tables, ping pong, sauna, lots of activities (especially good for homemakers).
3) Prompt service: the service from the management is excellent (as far as I have experienced.
4) Rates: Rates are undeniably going up but they are at par with other places. I personally did lot of search and my friends too and we concluded that still fair oaks is a good value for the buck
5) Security Deposit: Our apartment was very clean and we got almost everything back except for carpet cleaning charges which we were already expecting

Cons:
1) Storage: Apartments have literally no storage. This was our primary reason to move out.
2)Management: I have heard from people and experienced myself on one occasion that some of the people in management are rude. But again it also depends on the situation and the way you deal with them. They can do better and this is surely not a reason that anybody would consider while moving in or out.
3) Biased community: Almost 3 quarters of the inhabitants are -------. This is good for ------- and might not be so good for other people.
4) Community: Though the community features are excellent, it is almost impossible to get hold of facilities when you want. I had to wait for tennis courts for over an hour. Similar situation is with pool. Pool is always crowded and surrounded by people who have fun in just sitting around pool and doing nothing.
5) Apartment corridor: corridors that connect all the apartments are suffocating and always smells with Indian food.

Comparison: We and our friends did an extensive search around the area. No apartment is perfect. All have their pros and cons. The ones that are really perfect are super expensive. Overall Fair Oaks is one of the best place to live in Sunnyvale area.

Summary: Its a good place to live if you want a good community with decent apartment and do not want to shell out lots of money. Make sure that storage is not a priority for you. Rest all the delinquencies are non essential and surely anyone can live with it given the excellent features this apartment offers.
