I like it here - mostly!

Years at this apartment: 2000 - 2001
I?ve lived here for ten months now, and overall I?m pretty happy here. I have just a few niggles (see below), but these are pretty minor, so I don?t want to give the impression I don?t like it here.
So here?s what I don?t like:
- I find the parking spaces are too narrow and I have a compact car, I have no idea how people with larger cars cope.
- The cable TV signal quality (provided by Optel) is dreadful.
There?s a good choice of channels, but that?s not much use when the picture is so snowy it?s unwatchable. After a couple of months of that, I had to get a sattelite dish. I?m suprised there aren?t more dishes in use (I?ve counted about ten altogether), but then many of the apartments don?t face the right direction. Management have fairly strict rules about use of satellite dishes, but it is possible to do without breaking the rules.
- Noisy neighbors. Just a recent problem for me, as I never heard a peep from the previous neighbors. I guess it?s just pot luck whether you happen to live next to noisy people, but if you do, you?ll hear them in these apartments.
- Rent is very expensive. Unfortunately, I took a 12 month lease when rents were at their highest. On average, rates here have dropped by 300 a month since I moved in, I hope this is taken into account when my lease is renewed.
Here are some things I really like:
- My apartment is wonderfully light and airy. It?s south-facing, but I?ve never needed to use the air-conditioning. I have a great view of a couple of redwoods across the road.
- The 101 is 5-10 minutes away, and El Camino is only 5 mins away, but we?re far enough away that there?s no background traffic noise. This was an important factor for me as many of the comparable apartment complexes (e.g. Avalon Silicon Valley) are right next to very busy roads.
- Everything in the apartment is in very good condition, well kept and clean. Note the complex is only 3.5 years old.
- All the apartments have washers and dryers. I could never go back to using a communal laundry now.
- I haven?t had much need to call out the maintenance guys, but when I have the response has always been within a couple of hours even for the most trivial thing (drippy faucet).
- Good access to shops. No need to drive to the supermarket as Safeway is just round the corner.
- Excellent internet access - every apartment has a T-1 line wired in (there?s a 39 dollars a month charge for use of this, which is a very reasonable rate).
- The people in the management office have always been helpful and friendly.
