Live in the ghetto and get treated like dirt

I have lived here for almost four years, and I have been hating it for about 3.5 of them. Now that I finally have the time to move out, I can't wait.
Essentially, management doesn't care about the tenants -- it's that simple. When rents nosedived everywhere, and we were still paying $2,300 for an apartment that was being rented to new occupants for $1,500, the management wouldn't even return phone call asking about extending the lease in exchange for an adjustment. This was after they raised our rent $600 in six months and scared us enough to have us sign a year lease at the peak of the market. Great plan. Renovations are done to the apartment at the inconvenience of tenants (torn up living areas) with no compensation (as they assert they were doing it for us -- even though we are all transients), and to top it off, the complex borders a lower-rent complex where people think that honking is the only form of communications outside outside of loud drunken domestic disturbance yelling.
Do yourself a favor and don't repeat my mistakes -- find a nicer neighborhood and a better complex. Better yet, find a landlord who knows your name and actually has some concept of respect for tenants.
