No problems (except constant bathroom leaking) until you move out

If you'd like to read a short version of this, just go to the last paragraph.
We didn't have to deal w/ management much because 1. we only lived there for a year and 2. we're not big complainers. On the occassions that we did have to deal w/ them, they were pretty slow. Our toilet started to leak, so we arranged for it to be fixed. It took a while for them to "fix" it, and even when they finally got around to us, it would start to leak again periodically (in 3 month increments).
The BIG PROBLEMS start after you move out. We kept our apartment damn near spotless. We even took the last week of our stay to clean the tub, oven, and other harder to clean places. Not long after we finally moved out, we got a bill for almost $300. ...so not only did they keep our deposit, but they also stuck us w/ a bill for painting, cleaning the blinds, etc. Most of the charges should go under normal wear and tear. In fact, we left that unit so clean that new tenants could've moved in as soon as we handed over the keys.
Don't expect to get any of your deposit back AND BE PREPARED TO BE PRESENTED W/ A BILL FOR UNNECCESSARY CLEAN UP!
