decent for the price (at the time)

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2007
I lived in Shadowbrook for 2 years (2005-2007) and it was ok. The neighborhood isn't great, but I personally never had any issues even though I lived in a unit right on Acalanes Dr. One time, UPS even left a box in front of my door around Christmas after I'd left town, and stayed there for a few days until apartment staff collected it for me at my request. I'm pretty sure that in some other places, that box would've disappeared in no time. I also left my bedroom window open a crack for ventilation, and never felt unsafe about it.
I have mixed feelings about the grounds. I originally found the pond and stream with the ducks attractive, but at times, the water smelled bad, and ducks often left my patio covered in droppings. The staff were also a bit picky about leaving stuff on the patio, since it's open for everybody to see.
The unit it self was decent. I had a 1 bedroom unit, and it was huge (800sqft) for the price, with lots of storage space. The apartment was well lit, which is actually a plus that I only came to appreciate after I moved to a darker apartment. As others have mentioned, I also noticed plumbing issues, and they seemed to be doing work on it quite frequently. My toilet faucet ran rusty water, which was kind of gross.
I moved out mostly because they increase the rent by over 10%. Seems like apartment rent in the area's gone up about 35% since when I moved out here in 2005, so their rent might still be on the lower end. As long as you don't know in with high expectations, it's an ok place to live.
