I currently live here in Somerset Apts. and dread coming home every night. It's an unsafe neighborhood. Cops are roaming the units and detaining tenants 24/7, literally. I even witnessed an incident right outside my apartment where 6 officers had someone at gun point. Every other night a patrol helicopter will circle the area for hours late at night shining their flood lights into your windows, try sleeping to that. Moreover the maintenece and magaement is horrible. Even with the new management! When I first moved into the so called newly renovated 2 bedroom apartment, the fridge was damaged, the mircrowave was used and had so much food stuck to it on the inside, and supposedly they were brand new appliaces. None of the windows had screens, the verticle blinds were either missing, broken, dirty, or had paint splatted all over it, it was and still is infested with roaches and other spiders, and parts of the apartment had this stench of mildew. I remeber when maintenance finally came to inspect the stench I was experiencing, they told me that there is probably a dead rat in the vent somewhere and to just keep the windows, iwth no screens, opened and light candles to cover the smell. Whats worst is that they had me call 4 different times the day I was suppose to move to reschedule picking up the key. Their reason, they were not done painting and installing the new carpet. Instead of changing my move in date, i drove to somerstet 3 different times that day to be turned away after they promised the apartment would be ready, and wasn't able to pick up the key until after the office closed, which was a little after 6. Moving in the dark is not fun. Of course it wasn't until the next day during daylight that i realized all the damaged to the apartment. When i reported it, the told me they would put it a work request, but its a first come first serve basis. I waited over 2 months to get screens, 3 1/2 to fix 3 doors that were falling off the hinges, 4 months for the mildew smell to go away;it just got worst. Moreover, my deposit of over 400 dollars was credited to someone else account, and if i didn't have proof that i paid it, they were going to make me pay it again. I get a 48hr eviction notice placed on my door 6 months after living there; Somerset stated that I had an over due balance of 300. Knowing that I've never been late on the rent, they told me it was an acumulation of late fees for not paying the rent on time, yet they couldn't tell me exactly what months I was late on. After arguing with the magager for about 45 minutes, he apolgized and stated it was a mistake on their half and not to worry about. That same weeek I recived an overdue balance notice on my door for about 200, that also turned out to be a mistake. The pool is small and very dirty, they have security at night that you rarely see, and when you do, they're in there car watching a movie and or eating, many of the sprinkler heads shoot out, if not about 10ft accross the street, about 10ft into the air and soaks the mudding walkways. The other night I couldn't walk down the stairs without getting soaked, and i mean soaked, because a broken sprinkler head was shooting water about 5 steps up the stairs. This lasted a good 25 minutes. Overall, this place is filty. Please, don't let the new paint job and the "under new management" slogan fool you, this is no home, it's a cirucus gone wrong. I can't wait for the lease to be up!
P.S. The most positive thing about living here, is that you never run out of places to park.

I know this place is pathetic. My husband and I recently moved from there last month and couldn't be happier that we are no longer there. Management are liars and theives and they even tacked on an extra month to our lease and we were stuck there an extra month. We couldn't fight it cause when we moved in they refused to give us a copy of our lease. Now I know why. This complex is full of illegals and druggies and is very dangerous, especially at night. I never left the apartment after dark in fear of getting mugged or something. I felt very unsafe living there with my one year old son. I wouldn't let my worst enemy live there! It is disgusting and everything in the apartments are older than dirt and moldy. Do Not Live Here!!!!!!!

I knew of a family that lived there. They have the same complaint. Cop activities after dark. They moved out 7/31/08. They have given their 30 days notice. Upt to this date 10/01/08, they have not received their security deposit or the itemization of the deductions. This complex is in violation of the CA civil code 1950.5 (g)(1):
Quote:
No later than 21 calendar days after the tenant has vacated the premises, but not earlier than the time that either the landlord or the tenant provides a notice to terminate the tenancy under Section 1946 or 1946.1, Section 1161 of the Code of Civil Procedure, or not earlier than 60 calendar days prior to the expiration of a fixed-term lease, the landlord shall furnish the tenant, by personal delivery or by first-class mail, postage prepaid, a copy of an itemized statement indicating the basis for, and the amount of, any security received and the disposition of the security and shall return any remaining portion of the security to the tenant.
21 days from vacating the premesis is backed up here too:
Rent Stabilization Board: Suggestions for Recovering Your Security Deposit
"California law provides that a landlord must return your security deposit (minus any authorized deductions) or written justification for why s/he is not returning it within 21 days of the day you permanently vacate the rental unit."
