Nice, well-kept complex.

I'm not a fan of apartment complexes with long, straight, flourescent lit corridors of doors, all seeming like they lead into the twilight zone or some bad horror film. This complex is nice and cozy, despite the large number of units.

I still live in St. Charles Oaks, but thought I'd post my thoughts for folks who may be looking at it.

My 1br apartment is a palace compared to the last apartment I was in. Ample storage allowed me to close out the storage unit I had been renting, saving me over $100 per month. The kitchen is smallish, but big enough. The bathroom is very nice and the walk-in closet in the bedroom is a dream.

The grounds are kept up nicely and the management seems to be staying on top of the general maintenance. The few times I've had to deal with them, they have been very pleasant.

The one laundry facility with only eight machines means some unexpected or untimely waiting, as well as trekking quite a distance to do it.

The pool is heated only during the warmer times of the year, so don't plan on a December pool party unless everyone brings a wetsuit.

Security leaves, at the least, a lot to be desired and seems to me to be non-existant. There have been several instances of vandalism since I moved in and while the grafitti is removed promptly, little is done to correct the underlying problem of a lack of basic security. I've heard rumors of a lone security vehicle patrolling three complexes part time, but have yet to see it. If you have concerns about the security of your vehicle, this may not be the right complex for you as there is no secured parking.

Noise from the water pipes can be so loud that it obscures the sound from the television or radio. Cold water has a tendancy to get hot before it gets cold, possibly because the pipes are run side-by-side without any insulation. The living room also is somewhat sunken (not on purpose), so any tall furniture placed against a wall needs to be anchored as to avoid the tendancy to fall into the middle of the room.

Overall, I'm quite pleased with St. Charles Oaks and will probably stay for a while.
