for an apartment, these are great!

I've been living here for 7 years, and while I can understand the negative opinions some others shared, we have had a very good experience here. We did have major ant problems, and in my opinion it was the fault of the exterminator, not the apartments. I had them come in many times and I finally got one guy who actually knew something about ants and sprayed a powder in the walls that kept the ants away for almost a year. I think the apartments must have had something else done recently, too, because we haven't had a problem for a couple of years now. We do have rats on the patio, and mice and chipmunks, and once even a raccoon, but come on, we are backed up to mountain that provides a great view, even deer sightings! Again, that would be an issue with the exterminator, not the apt. staff.

As for the staff, maintenance has always been excellent--very courteous, prompt and accomodating. The apts. are owned by the same company as the Knolls across the street, and we share management staff. I have never had a problem with the Westlake Canyon staff, but when I have called over to the Knolls they were very rude and dismissive.

We are on the backside of the apts, so we don't hear the parking lot noise, the floors are concrete, so we don't hear our downstairs neighbors, and we don't hear neighbors through the walls either. The problem with noise comes into play when you want to have your windows open at night and the sprinklers come on at 2 in the morning or someone has their airconditioning running. One major problem are the water pipes, which are shared. When anyone takes a shower or flushes a toilet, you will hear it.

These apartments are very expensive, like everything else in the area, but we enjoy the safety, quiet, and a view of the southern sky for satellite tv...
