I do not recommend these apartments

I toured this complex in 2002 and again in 2004 when my lease was up. Each time I got the same feeling...Yuck! I also have now had 2 separate friends reside there.
In my search I selected other apartment communities in the area instead of Briarwood. The chief complaint is that the community is old and has not done anything to update the state of the community let a lone the units them selves. In general an apartment is an apartment. They all pretty much have the same features, same boring neutral carpet and same white walls. These apartments are just that, but 30 years with little to no improvements shows. The units DO have wall unit AC but as wall units go, these guys need to go. They do not effectively cool at all. The units have limited natural light which can cause depression. The uninspired landscaping does not help this feeling either. The office staff is nice but property management is a business and therefore overall resident happiness is not a big issue. Each of my friends had several maintenance issues with their units not limited to the usual light or toilet issues. The property has a problem with slab leaks and broken pipes in walls causing mold issues. Last year they had to move out an entire building of residents due to toxic mold. From what I hear from a current resident they may be facing that issue again but are denying it and will not even test for mold. I think that the Department of Housing Services needs to do an unannounced inspection of the community and review issues relating to slum lord conditions.
