Do NOT rent here!

This was the worst apt renting experience I have ever had. When I came to the Commons Apts I was told they had a 1 month free concession on a 12 month lease. I told the leasing consultant that I was in the Air Force and inquired as to what would happen with my free month ($1650) concession if I were to get orders. I was told not to worry as they rent to military all the time and the lease has a military clause releasing me from the contract to include the concession payback. After reviewing the contract I agreed that the military clause should shield me from any concession payback and the lease was signed. I recieved orders 3 months after moving in and was told that I would be required to pay back the $1650 concession even with the military clause. I went to base legal and had a letter written explaining the soldiers and sailors relief act and the military clause. A few days ago I recieved a move-out statement telling me that the concession needed to be payed back in full and so my only option is to take The Commons apts to small claims court. Good luck to all military who fight for our country and are penalized for getting orders!

Thank you for your reply as it is very helpful. I will look into contacting the city as well as the press regarding this matter.

I suggest that you let the City Councils of all of the cities in Solano County know what happened to you. Vacaville is a proud supporter of Travis AFB (hence all of the retirees and others who rent and buy there). The City Council has to approve any apartments that are built in the city, and has the power to grant or deny any permits to expand/improve anything already in place. I would also go to the press and let them know how the Management treated you. Other military members need to know about this place, and an article in the paper sure would be the way to get the word out. Signed, a former resident of the Commons.

Janine is a shady character and acts like she is above the residents here at the commons. Not sure why she is so arrogant and rude. Maybe she thinks she's a big shot because she thinks she holds a prestigious position (yeah right!). Don't let her fool you she's no better than you or I. She just needs her boss to keep her attitude in check!

For those Travis personnel who have had negative experiences with this apartment complex and the horrible management in particular (and it sounds like that is MOST of us), reporting these experiences to the base housing office is probably the best way to prevent the pain and suffering of other members looking to move there. I wrote a negative review a few months ago, and I'm motivated now to report my issues with Janine to the Housing office. Even if you've PCS'd, send the 60th Housing office an email with your specific issues. Maybe if we mobilize, we can get them off the housing recommendations list.
