If you're into getting screwed, here's the place to live!

Rent was raised $400 last year as Bay Landing worked the tight rental market to their advantage. Now that the bottom has fallen out of the rental market, Bay Landing is currently posting rent on a 1 bedroom at $1100/month [per www.springstreet.com]. So now I'm paying hundreds of dollars more for my 1 bedroom than new people coming in''' I guess I have to move in order to take advantage of the falling rents in the area -- but then wish me luck trying to find someone to sublease my current apartment at the current inflated rate. If a landlord has the right to raise your rent as high as they want it to be in order to bring it to what they consider "in line" with the current market rates thereby forcing you to either (1) pay, or (2) find something else [which can be a challenge in this area as well as a pain to just having to go through the expense and bother of moving], then they ought to BE FAIR ENOUGH to lower your rent when the rental market takes a dive. But no, Bay Landing figures as long as you are stupid enough to pay them a higher than market rate each month, they'll keep taking it from you. You'd think longer-term tenants would be the ones who pay less -- but not at this place -- the longer you're there, the larger the discrepancy.

Stay far, far away from this complex unless you own a goldmine. It may look nice from the outside, but if you take a closer look, in addition to this rental rate unfairness, you'll find cheap construction, overflowing garbage bins [uncovered at that], an extremely high car theft rate, and electric bills that would be more in line for what you'd pay for a 4 bedroom house [I've been tempted to see if there really is anything inbetween the wallboard in my apartment and the stucco on the outside]. You're better off finding a rent-directly-from-the-owner condo/townhouse situation where someone is more interested in having a good tenant versus trying to squeeze ever greedy cent they can out of you.
