Years at this apartment: 2001 - 2003
I lived here for two years. When I moved in, I loved it. Beautiful courtyard, wonderful trees outside your window, awesome location (can walk to downtown Walnut Creek). But then the manager changed twice, and the third manager was very difficult to deal with. He would often call me at work to inform me that he would be going into my apartment to look for a leak that had been looked for many times in the past. When I told him I needed to be given more advance notice than that, he one day went into my apartment without giving me notice at all, which is illegal. I discovered this because I only used to lock the top lock, and one day I came home and only the bottom lock had been locked. In the two years I lived there, people had to come look for this leak 8 times. I believe this is due to the 3 different managers who worked there over the period that I lived there. Each one had to investigate the leak for him/her self. In addition to the constant feeling of violation because of this problem, there are a lot of young 20-something people in this complex, and there is often a lot of noise very late at night. Before I finally left this complex (and the final straw that forced me out), my next door neighbor bought a surround sound system and placed it up against the wall he shared with me. He would play his video games on extremely loud volume until 1:00 or 2:00 AM. The volume was so loud that it vibrated my entire living room. The sound was a very loud, deep, ominous rumbling. The neighbor did not respond to my three requests to turn the volume down after 10:00 PM. The manager told me he would not say anything to the neighbor because he had lived there longer than I had. He also said that I should invite him (the manager) into my apartment at 1:00 AM so he could hear the noise. This is not a satisfactory option for a young woman living alone. I don't care how non-threatening a man may seem, he does not belong in a young woman's apartment at night unless she knows him well. In addition to this, the floors/ceilings are EXTREMELY thin - so thin that you can hear your upstairs neighbor's urine as it hits the porceline of the toilet. No, I'm not kidding. As you can imagine, your upstairs neighbor's footsteps will be very loud. You will know which room they are in at all times. Especially if they stay up late. Your walls will also shake when your next door neighbor leaves his or her apartment. Your pictures will fall off your walls from the vibration of your neighbor's door slamming. On top of all of this, your hot water will be turned off about once every 3 or 4 months for pipe repairs or something, and your toilet will become clogged any time you use a decent amount of toilet paper. If you are an extremely deep sleeper, don't care about strangers coming into your apartment when you are not home, and you are not home very often, then this might be a good place for you to live. Otherwise, please think twice.
