I've lived here for almost 5 years now. I will not repeat what everyone else has said. Rather, I will just say I agree with most of the positive. As for the negative, I think a lot of that is blown out of proportion.

When I first moved in, the A/C was less reliable, but it seems in the past few years, it has been more reliable. Even when working, it isn't the best air conditioning in the world, but it is certainly better than nothing. On those 100/100 days, it will usually keep the apartment under 80 degrees if you keep it on full tilt ALL day. And they pay for all but the blower electricity, so it isn't too bad energy cost wise. You can't get a window supplemental air conditioner either, because they don't want the place to look like ghetto housing.

I would say you would be well advised not to get a unit too close (or worse, directly adjacent to) a garbage chute, because some people do slam them sometimes, sometimes when you're trying to sleep. Luckily, mine isn't very close to one but I've heard how others slam them and can just imagine. UNLESS, there's a decent discount to one of these units and you feel the discount is worth it.

Overall, I concur with a previous reviewer who said the place is very comfortable and "homey", not to mention a decent value for Walnut Creek and its location within Walnut Creek even. And, as others have said, the staff is excellent, they maintain the place (especially the grounds) well, and it's pretty safe. And it's month to month, so you aren't locked into a long stay if you don't like it. I know there are a lot of long-timers here... 10, 15, and 20 years, so they must be doing something right.
