Good Location, Mostly Peaceful, Horrible Staff

I've lived here for over two and a half years now. I've been thinking of moving, but unfortunately I think I'm too lazy. There is good and bad here.

1. Parking-this simply sucks. You're given one spot and it's hardly big enough for a full size car. I have purchased a second spot for $40 a month, although I've heard it's gone up to $50. When other people park in your spot the managment does absolutely nothing about it. There is little to nothing on Creekside Dr. after 6 PM and on weekends. You can also rent a second spot from the Elk's lodge parking lot to help with guests.

2. Cleanliness-average. They don't really maintain the hallways all too well. The new carpet has only helped mask the fact they don't vacuum. The garbage rooms stink along with the halls that have them. I've seen the garbage rooms piled up for DAYS before anything was done about it. There is one hallway that stinks of old cigarette smoke.

3. Ambiance-WONDERFUL. I love the fountains and was able to get an apartment in a courtyard that has one. It helps to drown out the sounds from the neighboring freeway. I have an executive studio with a fireplace and private sauna. It's great and well worth the extra rent! Neighbors are relatively quiet, but I've heard worse in other hallways. I believe a lot of the excessive noise comes from the management allowing 4 people to rent out one studio.

4. Common areas-good and bad. The pool is great and I haven't had any problems with it. It rather a shady place so there's not much sun in the late afternoons. The fitness center is a joke and is never opened on time. The laundry rooms aren't very easy to use. They just reduced the size of the washers and raised the rates on the dryers. The two times I have tried to use the laundry room as soon as it opened it was over an hour late in being unlocked. If you have a long commute it's hard to budget laundry room time...they close at 10. On site storage is constantly broken into and way too expensive. You have a better deal with public storage.

5. Pets-FABULOUS! This place allows cats and small dogs. Not being a dog lover I'm not extremely tolerant of some of the barking. It's still a great policy for the management to allow.

6. Staff-SUCKS, SUCKS, SUCKS! First of all there is one shining star. Work with Nicole. She is friendly and knows her stuff. What she doesn't know she will research and get back to you. Everyone else falls into the twit category. They are rude and will cop an attitude with you very quickly. The assistant manager is a prick and completly unwilling to help with ANYTHING. If you go to him with a problem he gets defensive and makes up bull ---- excuses. The only thing I've ever seen the manager doing is reading magazines. She only comes out of her office if she thinks there's a problem going on. She not all that great in answering simple questions either. I've learned that if you are as unresponsive with these people as they are with you then you'll get further with them.

7. Money-you get what you pay for. The apartments for 6 months leases are a good buy. My rent has gone up and down but by no more or less than $100. They underestimate the utilities when you sign. I was told $15-$20 and it has always been $35-38. It's based on square footage and number of occupants. Electricity is separate and for me has always lingered around $20 or so a month. (This includes the summer when I had house guests that were running the A/C everyday while I was at work.) Heat is adequate for the size of the apartment. The renters' insurance is a pain in the butt and I don't agree with it at all.

8. Security-slim to none but adequate. Don't be fooled by the gated access and extra door to the building. Half the time the gates are broken open and the outside doors proped open. For about 8 months the fire alarms were a big problem. Unfortunately I learned to sleep through them. I'm glad they wern't real fires! I've had no problems with break ins. I was concerned about a year ago when the leasing office was broken into and they tried to keep it a secret. When I enquired about it the office assistant started to tell me. The prick manager cut her and evil look and shushed her. I guess they didn't want their residents to know about it.

In retrospect, I've been pretty happy here. There are some things that annoy me, but not enough to want to leave. I still think it's a great place to live and I've recommended it to friends moving to the bay area.
