Geez...where do I begin'
When the deposit was given and the lease was signed, an "inspection" of the apartment took place with the property manager to determine if there was anything to be repaired or be taken care of before taking residence.
Several things were cited, most notably the fact that there was no electricity emanating from the outlets at the kitchen counter-tops in order to operate basic appliances such as a toaster, coffee maker, etc. and that the garbage disposal did not work and water backed up every time the sink was used. Also, the downstairs toilet was not operational.
We were assured that these things would be fixed, and to this day, they still have not been taken care of despite reminding the property manager repeatedly.
Shortly after taking residence, we discovered that there was a pest problem. We were advised by an angry neighbor that pest control was to take place once per month, but that never actually happens. Wonderful.
The property manager, who I learned was relatively new, leaves a lot to be desired and I didn't trust her from day one. Instinct, I guess.
She seems to be more concerned with her new relationship (another married tenant), than with keeping the property acceptable for human life and paying attention to her surroundings.
All maintenance (routine and otherwise) and pest control has fallen to the wayside, and as a result, the building and its residents have suffered.
Recently, an anonymous resident called the health department, and now we've been forced (without the mandatory 24 hr. notice by law, and according to our lease) to clean the unit and tear everything apart in preparation for pest control to come in and invade our privacy while we're not at home to watch things.
I'm all for pest control, but the required list for preparation is impossible to complete in the 5 hours between getting off work and getting to bed at a decent hour.
It's either that, or face a fine. (Empty your closets, cabinets, drawers, move all furniture to the center of the room, clear counter-tops, cover everything in plastic, ad nauseum...)
I could go on and on, but you get the idea.
In conclusion, if the property manager kept it in her pants and paid attention to her job and what is required to maintain a decent and livable residence, I wouldn't be here right now complaining like I am.
She might not mind roaches, malfunctioning fixtures and being slovenly in general, but I do.
This place is a joke.
